Pericytes (PCs) contribute to brain capillary/BBB integrity and PC migration is a hallmark for brain capillary leakage following pro-inflammatory insults. Estradiol promotes endothelial barrier integrity by inhibiting tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α)-induced PC migration. However, the underlying mechanisms remain unclear.

Sepsis is a severe inflammatory syndrome with high mortality and morbidity. Sepsis-induced myocardial dysfunction (SIMD) is a common cause of death in sepsis. The female sex is less susceptible to sepsis-related organ dysfunction, although the underlying mechanism of this sex difference remains unclear.

The GPR30 Receptor Is Involved in IL-6-Induced Metastatic Properties of MCF-7 Luminal Breast Cancer Cells.

Int J Mol Sci

Centro Multidisciplinario de Estudios en Biotecnología, Facultad de Medicina Veterinaria y Zootecnia, Universidad Michoacana de San Nicolás de Hidalgo, Km 9.5 Carretera Morelia-Zinapécuaro, Posta Veterinaria, Morelia 58893, Michoacán, Mexico.

Luminal breast cancer has a high incidence worldwide and poses a severe health threat. Estrogen receptor alpha (ER-α) is activated by 17β-estradiol (E2), and its overexpression promotes cancerous characteristics. Luminal breast cancer is an epithelial type; however, the cytokine IL-6, secreted by cells within the tumor microenvironment, stimulates the epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) and promotes metastasis.

Behavioural changes in young ovariectomized mice via GPR30-dependent serotonergic nervous system.

Eur J Neurosci

Department of Functional Brain Activities, United Graduate School of Child Development, Osaka University, Suita, Japan.

Article Synopsis
  • Fluctuations in estradiol levels throughout a woman's life, especially during menopause, can impact mental health by affecting the serotonin nervous system, leading to symptoms like depression and anxiety.
  • Research using a childhood mouse model showed that ovariectomy (removal of ovaries) at a young age decreased activity levels and altered social preferences.
  • The study found that the G protein-coupled receptor 30 plays a significant role in regulating serotonin levels, suggesting it influences behavior changes in response to low estradiol during childhood.
