Absorption at the idler wavelength in an optical parametric oscillator (OPO) is often considered detrimental. We show through simulations that pulsed OPOs with significant idler absorption can perform better than OPOs with low idler absorption both in terms of conversion efficiency and beam quality. The main reason for this is reduced back conversion. We also show how the beam quality depends on the beam width and pump pulse length, and present scaling relations to use the example simulations for other pulsed nanosecond OPOs.

This paper introduces a tunable and high-quality photon source that utilizes evanescent-wave coupling phase matching. By adjusting the coupling gap, the signal light can be tuned from 1307 nm to 1493.9 nm, and the idler light can be tuned from 1612.

In this work, we detail an ultrafast pump-probe transient absorption (TA) spectrometer capable of probing the near-infrared (NIR) spectral region from 900 to 2350 nm simultaneously. Two key advances were required to overcome previous spectral window limitations, which typically result from constrained supercontinuum ranges (e.g.

We demonstrate a pulsed mid-infrared (MIR) optical parametric oscillator (OPO) with both inter-pulse and intra-pulse dual-wavelength operation capability. A fiber master oscillator power amplifier incorporating an acousto-optic tunable filter (AOTF) was employed as the pump for the OPO. By finely adjusting the drive wave packets for the AOTF, dual-wavelength pump can be realized within each pulse or between two adjacent pulses.

We present a BaGa4Se7 (BGSe) crystal based coherent pulsed light source for high resolution mid-infrared (MIR) spectroscopy in the 4-12 µm region. The all-solid-state system consists of an injection seeded optical parametric generator (OPG) and an optical parametric amplifier (OPA) using two KTiOPO4 crystals. The idler output of OPG-OPA and the fundamental output (1064 nm) of a wavelength stabilized Nd:YAG laser are employed for difference frequency generation of MIR pulses in the BGSe crystal.

A stable, narrow-bandwidth (274 MHz) backward wave optical parametric oscillator (BWOPO) generating mJ-level backward signal at 1885nm and forward idler at 2495 nm is presented. The BWOPO was pumped by a single-longitudinal mode, Q-switched Nd:YAG high-energy laser at 1064 nm. We show that multi-transversal mode pumping leads to the spectral broadening of the BWOPO backward signal and the generation of nanosecond pulses 2.
