Ligand-gated ion channel kinetics were studied in mammalian transfected cells encoding adult mouse muscle acetylcholine (ACh) receptors. We measured macroscopic and single-channel currents using the outside-out and cell-attached patch-clamp configurations. Cultured cells were exposed to moderate intensity inhomogeneous static magnetic fields up to 180 mT and measurements were performed for temperatures ranging from 5 to 50 °C. We found no significant changes in ACh-elicited macroscopic or single-channel currents. We observed the expected dependence in current decay constants with temperature, but negligible magnetic field influence on the channel's kinetics.

Optical metasurfaces offer significant advantages in enhancing the speed, efficiency, and miniaturization of imaging systems. However, most existing metasurfaces are limited to static functionalities and lack reconfigurability, which is a key feature for practical applications in dynamic environments. In this work, we demonstrate a reconfigurable optical metasurface capable of switching between two distinct imaging functions (edge detection and bright-field imaging) within the visible spectrum.

Background: Previous studies have shown that in-beam magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) can be used to visualize a proton beam during the irradiation of liquid-filled phantoms. The beam energy- and current-dependent local image contrast observed in water was identified to be predominantly caused by beam-induced buoyant convection and associated flow effects. Besides this flow dependency, the MR signal change was found to be characterized by a change in the relaxation time of water, hinting at a radiochemical contribution, which was hypothesized to lie in oxygen depletion-evoked relaxation time lengthening.

Purpose: The aim was to establish a functional MRI protocol for analyzing human stereoscopic vision in clinical practice. The feasibility was established in a cohort of 9 healthy subjects to determine the functional cortical areas responsible for virtually relief vision.
Methods: Nine healthy right-handed subjects underwent orthoptic examination and functional MRI.
Fullerenes are statically pleasant species featuring symmetric cages, which can be modified upon reduction. Here, we theoretically account for the variation of 13C-NMR patterns in C60 and C70 upon six-fold reduction and the overall variation of the enabled shielding/deshielding regions induced by π and σ electrons according to different orientations of the external field and the related anisotropy. Our results show a significant modification of the chemical shift given by the main variation of the σ33 (or δ33) shielding component under the principal axis system (PAS) of the chemical shift anisotropy (CSA) at the representative carbon nucleus.

This work is devoted to the study of the static magnetization of immobilized multi-core particles (MCPs) and their ensembles. These objects model aggregates of superparamagnetic nanoparticles that are taken up by biological cells and subsequently used, for example, as magnetoactive agents for cell imaging. In this study, we derive an analytical formula that allows us to predict the static magnetization of MCPs consisting of immobilized granules, in which the magnetic moment rotates freely the Néel mechanism.
