Conventional staging for locoregional prostate adenocarcinoma has been demonstrated as potentially underdiagnosing. Therefore, prostate MRI is emerging as an important tool for staging before surgery. Advanced techniques such as diffusion and dynamic contrast enhancement also contribute to increasing its accuracy. In this preliminary study, MRI was compared with prostate histopathology samples, reaching 78% sensitivity and 100% specificity for tumor localization; 33% sensitivity and 100% specificity for extracapsular extension; 100% sensitivity and 100% specificity for involvement of the seminal vesicles. It is possible to believe that these preliminary results are promising, and more cases will tend to confirm these data.

This study aimed to investigate the cutoff values of standardized uptake values (SUVs) and their accuracy using single-photon emission computed tomography-computed tomography (SPECT-CT) for temporomandibular joint (TMJ) osteoarthritis (OA) based on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and clinical examination. We included 106 joints of 53 patients with TMJ OA. SUVmax and SUVpeak of each TMJ was measured.

Despite the well-documented mutation spectra of β-thalassemia, the genetic variants and haplotypes of globin gene clusters modulating its clinical heterogeneity remain incompletely illustrated. Here, a targeted long-read sequencing (T-LRS) is demonstrated to capture 20 genes/loci in 1,020 β-thalassemia patients. This panel permits not only identification of thalassemia mutations at 100% of sensitivity and specificity, but also detection of rare structural variants (SVs) and single nucleotide variants (SNVs) in modifier genes/loci.

Sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) is an important prognostic tool that accurately assesses regional lymph node involvement and guides therapeutic decisions. Material and this prospective study involved 104 patients diagnosed with cutaneous melanoma who underwent SLNB using a radioactive tracer.

Diaryl thieno-[3,4-]thiophenes (TT) are photoswitchable compounds that operate through reversible photoinduced cyclization/cycloreversion and have been designed specifically for integration within π-conjugated polymers to switchably manipulate polymer electronic properties. Here we report on how cross conjugating the central TT moiety impacts photocyclization dynamics as interrogated using transient absorption spectroscopy (TAS) for a series of switches built with electron-rich substituents that have various electronic interaction strengths with the TT core. For cross-conjugated structures exhibiting a propensity to switch in steady-state photoconversion experiments, ultrafast TAS reveals signatures of rapid dynamics (occurring within <1-10 ps) similar to those observed for unsubstituted switches and that are consistent with photocyclization.
