Introduction: Application of on-line solid-phase extraction (SPE) as an interface between HPLC and NMR has gained great improvement in solving sensitivity problems and signal interferences by the eluents.
Objective: Rapid analysis and characterisation by HPLC-SPE-NMR and LC/MS of the arylnaphthalene-type lignans present in Phyllanthus myrtifolius and the minor stilbenoids present in the polyphenol-rich fraction from the ethanol extract of the seeds of Syagrus romanzoffiana.
Methodology: Pretreatment of fractions by liquid-liquid partitioning, followed by Sephadex LH-20 fractionation, was found very useful to facilitate the focusing and analysis of the polyphenolic fraction. HPLC-DAD-SPE-NMR (400 MHz and 600 MHz) analysis was carried out using an Agilent 1100 liquid chromatography, followed by a Prospekt 2 automated solid-phase extraction unit, containing 96 HySphere-Resin GP cartridges (10 × 2 mm, 10-12 µm), which was connected to a 120 or 60 µL LC probe.
Results: Seven arylnaphthalene-type lignans from the chloroform-soluble fraction of P. myrtifolius and nine stilbenoids from a polyphenol-rich butanol-soluble fraction of the seeds of S. romanzoffiana were characterised.
Conclusions: HPLC-SPE-NMR associated with HR-ESI/MS, which consumed only analytical amounts of partially purified mixtures, was demonstrated to be a good tool for rapid screening of both known and new natural products.

Patients presenting with suspected acute coronary syndrome (ACS) in the emergency department (ED) require rapid and accurate electrocardiographic (ECG) evaluation. This study aims to assess conventional ECG markers for diagnosing non-ST-elevation ACS (NSTE-ACS) in patients with chest discomfort and right bundle branch block (RBBB). A nested case-control design was employed to compare patients with RBBB admitted to the ED for suspected cardiac ischemia, focusing on those who developed NSTE-ACS versus those who did not.

Aflatoxin M1 (AFM1) is known to be carcinogenic, mutagenic, and teratogenic and poses a serious threat to food safety and human health, which makes its surveillance critical. In this study, an indirect competitive ELISA (icELISA) based on a nanobody (Nb M4) was developed for the sensitive and rapid detection of AFM1 in dairy products. In our previous work, Nb M4 was screened from a Bactrian-camel-immunized phage-displayed library.

Tuberculosis (TB) is the second deadliest infectious disease worldwide. Current TB diagnostics utilize sputum samples, which are difficult to obtain, and sample processing is time-consuming and difficult. This study developed an integrated diagnostic platform for the rapid visual detection of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) in breath samples at the point-of-care (POC), especially in resource-limited settings.

Biodegradable plastics, primarily aliphatic polyesters, degrade to varying extents in different environments. However, the absence of easily implementable techniques for screening microbial biodegradation potential -coupled with the limitations of non-functional omics analyses- has restricted comparative studies across diverse polymer types and ecosystems. In this study, we optimized a novel airbrushing method that facilitates functional analyses by simplifying the preparation of polyester-coated plates for biodegradation screening.
