Gaseous metal anions such as Na(-), K(-), Cs(-), and Ag(-) can be generated at ambient temperatures by the collision-induced dissociation of the anions of several dicarboxylic acid salts, including oxalate, maleate, fumarate, succinate, and glutamate salts. The formation of gaseous metal anions in this way is unprecedented because the metal is initially present in its cationic form. The mild process described here could facilitate novel applications of metal anions as selective reagents for gas-phase ion-molecule and ion-ion reactions. Ab initio calculations were used to describe the dissociation process for anions of the oxalate salts. The formation of alkalides occurs via production of a metal-carbon dioxide anion intermediate with a bidentate three-center two-electron bond to the metal. The metal atom acquires a partial negative charge in the intermediate structure.

We present two innovative approaches to investigate the dynamics of membrane fusion and the strength of protein-membrane interactions. The first approach employs pore-spanning membranes (PSMs), which allow for the observation of protein-assisted fusion processes. The second approach utilizes colloidal probe microscopy with membrane-coated probes with reconstituted proteins.

Under extreme conditions, condensed matters are subject to undergo a phase transition and there have been many attempts to find another form of hydroxide stabilized over HO. Here, using Density Functional Theory (DFT)-based crystal structure prediction including zero-point energy, it is that proton superoxide (HO), the lightest superoxide, can be stabilized energetically at high pressure and temperature conditions. HO is metallic at high pressure, which originates from the 𝜋 orbitals overlap between adjacent superoxide anions (O ).

Electrochemical water splitting is a promising method for the generation of "green hydrogen", a renewable and sustainable energy source. However, the complex, multistep synthesis processes, often involving hazardous or expensive chemicals, limit its broader adoption. Herein, a nitrate (NO) anion-intercalated nickel-iron-cerium mixed-metal (oxy)hydroxide heterostructure electrocatalyst is fabricated on nickel foam (NiFeCeOH@NF) via a simple electrodeposition method followed by cyclic voltammetry activation to enhance its surface properties.

Two dipicolylamine (DPA) derivatives with the pyrene and anthracene groups, 1-(pyren-1-yl)-N, N-bis-(pyridine-2-ylmethyl)benzylamine (L1) and 1-(anthracen-9-yl)-N, N-bis-(pyridine-2-ylmethyl)benzylamine (L2) were synthesized, characterized, and their affinitive properties for metal ions were studied. The mass spectroscopy and Job's plots showed that L1 and L2 reacted with Cu and formed complexes [Cu(L1)(solvent)] (L1-Cu) and [Cu(L2)(solvent)] (L2-Cu), respectively. Both L1 and L2 were fluorescent probes recognizing Cu via the emission quenching and further detecting HS via the emission revival.
