Rotaxane-catalyzed aerobic oxidation of primary alcohols.

Commun Chem

November 2024

Department of Chemistry "Giacomo Ciamician", University of Bologna, Via P. Gobetti 85, I-40129, Bologna, Italy.

Article Synopsis
  • Nitroxide radicals serve as effective catalysts for oxidizing primary alcohols within a specially designed rotaxane structure that includes a paramagnetic crown ether and a molecular axle.
  • The rotaxane's primary catalyst is a nitroxide radical that changes its oxidation state during the reaction, while Cerium(IV)/O acts as the co-oxidant.
  • The study not only details the synthesis and characterization of the rotaxane using various analytical techniques but also explores its potential for developing autonomous molecular machines based on this catalytic process.

Article Synopsis
  • The study focused on developing a smartphone-web app aimed at supporting DWI offenders and their concerned family members (CFMs) during and after the use of ignition interlock devices (IIDs).
  • Key findings from interviews and focus groups revealed that both DWI offenders and CFMs face challenges such as a lack of information, financial strain, and the importance of supportive communication, leading to the creation of four app modules.
  • Usability testing showed that the app was user-friendly and met the needs of its target audience, highlighting the need for further research to assess its effectiveness.

Psoriasis is a chronic, immune-mediated disorder characterized by immune regulation disorders and abnormal keratinocyte proliferation. Deucravacitinib (Deu), a selective oral Tyrosine Kinase 2 (TYK2) inhibitor, shows promise in treating psoriasis but may cause systemic side effects and fail to address persistent localized thickened lesions. Herein, a self-locking microneedle (MN) patch with a polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) inner ring loaded with Deu is developed, designed to penetrate the transdermal barriers and dissolve rapidly, downregulating the IL-23/IL-17 pathway and serve as the first line of defense against the spread of skin-originated inflammation.

Introduction: Ignition interlock devices installed after conviction for driving under the influence of alcohol (DUI) have been shown to reduce subsequent DUI arrests (specific deterrence). However, there is little evidence on how interlock-device penalties might affect general deterrence, that is, deterring people from driving after consuming alcohol prior to a DUI conviction.

Methods: A discrete choice experiment was conducted and data were analyzed in 2023 with 583 U.

ZIF-8-modified hydrogel sequentially delivers angiogenic and osteogenic growth factors to accelerate vascularized bone regeneration.

J Control Release

October 2024

Key Laboratory for Biomechanics and Mechanobiology of Ministry of Education, Beijing Advanced Innovation Center for Biomedical Engineering, School of Biological Science and Medical Engineering, Beihang University, Beijing 100083, China. Electronic address:

To realize high-quality vascularized bone regeneration, we developed a multifunctional hydrogel (SHPP-ZB) by incorporating BMP-2@ZIF-8/PEG-NH nanoparticles (NPs) into a sodium alginate/hydroxyapatite/polyvinyl alcohol hydrogel loaded with PDGF-BB, allowing for the sequential release of angiogenic and osteogenic growth factors (GFs) during bone repair. ZIF-8 served as a protective host for BMP-2 from degradation, ensuring high encapsulation efficiency and long-term bioactivity. The SHPP-ZB hydrogel exhibited enhanced mechanical strength and injectability, making it suitable for complex bone defects.
