Aim: To investigate follicular fluid IGF 1, IGFBP 3 and their effects on IVF outcome in patients using different gonadotropins.

Materials And Methods: This prospective study was performed among 92 IVF patients who were categorized according to IVF pregnancy outcome. Two groups were formed as Group 1 : pregnant, Group 2: non pregnant.

Results: Follicular IGF 1 and IGFBP 3 levels were not different between the two groups. There were negative correlations between follicular IGF 1 and age, gonadotropin dose, embryo numbers in all patients and group 2, but there were no correlations between IGF1 and these parameters in group 1. Although IGFBP 3 levels were not different in patients using rec FSH or HMG, IGF 1 were higher in patients treated by rec FSH compared to patient using HMG. When the groups using rec FSH or HMG were analyzed according to pregnancy rate, there were no differences in IGF 1 levels.

Conclusion: Follicular IGF 1, IGFBP 3 do not predict clinical IVF outcome regardless of the different gonadotropin preparations.

Effects of Intrauterine Isoproterenol Administration on Ovarian Follicular Development in Cows.

Vet Med Sci

January 2025

Department of Biochemistry, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Erzurum, Turkey.

Background: Isoproterenol (ISO) is a nonselective beta-adrenergic receptor agonist known for its vasodilatory effects. This experiment aims to investigate whether intrauterine ISO administration could alter vascular indices and follicular development in postpartum Holstein cows.

Objectives: The objectives are to evaluate the effects of intrauterine ISO administration on vascular changes and its impact on follicular development compared to placebo groups.

Background: Higher concentration of insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) increases postmenopausal breast cancer risk, but evidence for insulin and c-peptide is limited. Further, not all studies have accounted for potential confounding by biomarkers from other biological pathways, and not all were restricted to estrogen receptor (ER)-positive breast cancer.

Methods: This was a case-cohort study of 1,223 postmenopausal women (347 with ER-positive breast cancer) from the Melbourne Collaborative Cohort Study.

Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) are M2 macrophage markers that are modulated by inflammation. A disintegrin and metalloproteinases (ADAMS) and those with thrombospondin motifs (ADAMTS) regulate the shedding of membrane-bound proteins, growth factors, cytokines, ligands, and receptors; MMPs, ADAMS, and ADAMTS may be regulated by tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinases (TIMPs). This study aimed to determine whether these interacting proteins were dysregulated in PCOS.

Intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) is the second most common obstetric complication after preterm labor. Appropriate trophoblast differentiation and placental structure, growth and function are key for the maintenance of pregnancy and normal fetal growth, development and survival. Extravillous trophoblast cell proliferation, migration and invasion are regulated by molecules produced by the fetomaternal interface, including autocrine factors produced by the trophoblast, such as insulin‑like growth factor (IGF)‑1.

The retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) contributes to retinal homeostasis, and its metabolic dysfunction is implied in the development of retinal degenerative disease. The isoform M2 of pyruvate kinase (PKM2) is a key factor in cell metabolism, and its function may be affected by insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1). This study aims to investigate the effect of IGF-1 on PKM2 modulation of RPE cells and whether co-treatment with klotho may preserve it.
