Two new polynuclear heterometallic cluster complexes with [Mn(III)(3)M(II)Na] (M = Mn, Ca) core were synthesized using two in situ formed Schiff bases. The compounds were structurally characterized by single crystal X-ray analysis. The compound with [Mn(III)Ca(II)Na] appeared to catalyse water oxidation which was followed by using Clark electrode and online mass spectrometry.

Fachbereich Chemie, Philipps-Universität Marburg, Hans-Meerwein-Straße 4, 35032, Marburg, Germany.

Reaction of CsF with ClF leads to Cs[Cl F ]. It contains a molecular, propeller-shaped [Cl F ] anion with a central μ -F atom and three T-shaped ClF molecules coordinated to it. This anion represents the first example of a heteropolyhalide anion of higher ClF content than [ClF ] and is the first Cl-containing interhalogen species with a μ-bridging F atom.

A new mononuclear europium complex incorporating the (+)-di-p-toluoyl-D-tartaric acid (D-HDTTA) ligand, namely, catena-poly[tris{μ-3-carboxy-2,3-bis[(4-methylphenyl)carbonyloxy]propanoato}tris(methanol)europium(III)], [Eu(CHO)(CHOH)], (I), has been synthesized and characterized by IR spectroscopy, elemental analysis, powder X-ray diffraction and single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The structure analysis indicates that complex (I) crystallizes in the trigonal space group R3 and exhibits an infinite one-dimensional chain structure, in which the Eu ion is surrounded by six O atoms from six D-HDTTA ligands and three O atoms from three coordinated methanol molecules, thus forming a tricapped trigonal prism geometry. The D-HDTTA ligand is partially deprotonated and adopts a μ-coordination mode via two carboxylate groups to link adjacent Eu ions, affording an infinite one-dimensional propeller-shaped coordination polymer chain along the c axis, with an Eu.

A trigonal propeller-shaped hybrid polyoxometalate (POM) (NHMe){[Nd(MoO)(DMF)](BTC)}·8DMF (1; BTC = 1,3,5-benzenetricarboxylate) has been synthesized and structurally characterized. The planar {Mo} segment is tailored from the precursor Lindqvist polyoxoanion [MoO] firstly, and plays a key role in the reassembly of 1. Furthermore, the magnetic studies reveal that 1 shows single-molecule magnet (SMM) behavior.

Complexes of new Schiff base ligands generated in situ from the reaction of 1-aminoglycerol, aldehydes, and metal ions are reported. [Cu4(HL(1))4] (1) and [Ni4O(HL(1))3(H2O)3)]⋅6 H2O⋅DMF⋅DMSO (2) have M4O4 cubane cores, with the L/M molar ratios of 4:4 and 3:4, respectively. [Mn(III)3Mn(II)NaOCl4(HL(1))3]⋅3 MeCN (3) has a unique pentanuclear trigonal propeller-shaped Mn(III)3Mn(II)Na core structure, and the coordination assemblies are linked by hydrogen bonds to afford a 3D channel structure.
