Purpose: In this review article, we present an extensive overview of recent developments in the area of dysarthric speech research. One of the key objectives of speech technology research is to improve the quality of life of its users, as evidenced by the focus of current research trends on creating inclusive conversational interfaces that cater to pathological speech, out of which dysarthric speech is an important example. Applications of speech technology research for dysarthric speech demand a clear understanding of the acoustics of dysarthric speech as well as of speech technologies, including machine learning and deep neural networks for speech processing.

Surface-enhanced Raman scattering has been widely used for molecular/material characterization and chemical and biological sensing and imaging applications. In particular, plasmonic nanogap-enhanced Raman scattering (NERS) is based on the highly localized electric field formed within the nanogap between closely spaced metallic surfaces to more strongly amplify Raman signals than the cases with molecules on metal surfaces. Nanoparticle-based NERS offers extraordinarily strong Raman signals and a plethora of opportunities in sensing, imaging and many different types of biomedical applications.

Background: Alpha-synuclein (ɑ-syn) plays a key role in Parkinson's disease (PD) pathogenesis, but existing studies have found mixed results regarding the associations between plasma ɑ-syn and the development of cognitive impairment. We aim to clarify the potentially important relationship between ɑ-syn level in plasma and development of cognitive impairment in PD through systematic review and meta-analysis.
Methods: A systematic search was conducted in the PubMed, Embase and Web of Science databases for studies reporting plasma ɑ-syn concentrations and cognitive impairment in PD.
