Inflammation-reducing thermosensitive hydrogel with photothermal conversion for skin cancer therapy.

J Control Release

College of Biomedical Engineering and National Engineering Research Center for Biomaterials, Sichuan University, Chengdu 610064, China. Electronic address:

Photothermal therapy (PTT) has widely been utilized for postoperative treatment of skin cancer, while high temperature, usually >50 °C, would induce damage to healthy tissue and increased wound inflammation. Herein, we developed an "all in one" hydrogel to enhance mild PTT for postoperative skin cancer treatment while circumventing photothermo-induced inflammation by loading quercetin (Que)-coated tannin‑iron (TA-Fe) nanoparticles with poly (N-acrylylglycine) amine (PNAGA) hydrogel (Que@TA-Fe@PNAGA). Exposure to near-infrared light, Que.

Herein, we report the synthesis, characterization, supramolecular gelation and multiple applications of 6-aminocoumarin-derived Schiff bases 1 and 2. Both Schiff bases underwent gelation in DMF-HO (2 : 1, v/v), DMSO-HO (2 : 1, v/v) and dioxane-HO (2 : 1, v/v) involving weak forces. Furthermore, the gels were stable and exhibited good viscoelastic properties.

Poloxamer 407 (P407) is used as a safety-guaranteed, invaluable pharmaceutical nanocarrier. The aqueous solution of P407 exhibits sol-to-gel and gel-to-sol transitions, specifically during a temperature rise. Here, we develop a method to determine the pair potential between colloidal particles based primarily on experimental small-angle scattering data.

Reactive oxygen species (ROS) are produced by cellular activities, such as metabolism and immune response, and play important roles in cell signaling and homeostasis. However, overproduced ROS causes irreversible damage to nucleic acids and membrane lipids, supporting genetic mutations and enhancing the effects of aging. Cells defend themselves against ROS using antioxidant systems based on redox-active sulfur and transition metals.

One of the challenges preventing wide use of inorganic salt hydrate phase change materials (PCMs) is their low viscosity above their melting point, leading to leakage, phase segregation, and separation from heat exchanger surfaces in thermal management applications. The development of a broad strategy for using polymers that provide tunable, temperature-reversible shape stabilization of a variety of salt hydrates by using the lowest possible polymer concentrations is hindered by differences in solubility and gelation behavior of polymers with change in the type of ion. This work addressed the challenge of creating robust, temperature-responsive shape-stabilizing polymer gels (i.
