Sucrose-lysozyme spheroplasts were prepared from two strains of Pseudomonas cepacia and tested for susceptibility to polymyxin B and benzalkonium chloride. Spheroplasts were more susceptible than whole cells to benzalkonium chloride but not to polymyxin B. Disruption of the outer membrane layer was not by itself sufficient to render P. cepacia susceptible to polymyxin B.

Background: The isolation and culture of Mycobacterium ulcerans (Mu) as a primary diagnostic modality for Buruli ulcer (BU) disease are limiting due to their low sensitivity and slow-growing nature. M. ulcerans cultures can also be overgrown with other bacteria and fungi.

l-Menthol, valued for its aroma, cooling properties, and biological activity, is often produced as a mixture with d-menthol, which negatively impacts taste and odor. To improve the purity of industrial l-menthol production, we engineered (BCL) to improve its stereoselectivity. While wild-type BCL achieves only 98% enantiomeric excess, we used molecular dynamics simulations of BCL bound to menthol acetate, combined with computational rational design method (MSPER), to identify key mutation sites.

Phenotypic diversity in bacteria often results from adaptation to changing environmental conditions, exemplified by variable colony morphotypes. In , discrete genomic alterations and modulation of gene expression facilitate adaptation. Adapted variants of species within the complex (Bcc) often lose the pC3 virulence megaplasmid, impacting their colony morphology and their production of virulence factors.

Introduction: Aerobic gram-negative bacilli (AGNB) are not part of the resident oral microflora but are occasionally found in high abundance under inflammatory dysbiotic conditions at various oral niches. The aim of the present study was to investigate the identity and antibiotic susceptibility of AGNB isolated from patients in Sweden with mucosal lesions, periodontitis, and peri-implantitis, with special attention to antibiotic resistance and on the presence of phenotypic Extended Spectrum Beta-Lactamase (ESBL) isolates.
Materials And Methods: Microbiolgical samples were harvested from 211 patients in total, experiencing mucosal lesions ( = 113), periodontitis ( = 62), or peri-implantitis ( = 36).

Thermal springs are aquatic environments with high temperatures that often host thermophilic organisms which is important for an ecological and evolutionary perspective, as they have developed adaptation mechanisms to thrive at different temperatures based on their ideal growth requirements. This study analyzed water samples to identify thermophilic prokaryotic populations via 16S amplicon sequencing. The sequencing reads were processed using QIIME2 2023.
