We described how to make our rat femoral fracture model. Based on our results using this model, we reviewed radiological, histological and mechanical fracture healing process. Fracture healing is completed by not only bone union of fracture site but restoration of original bony shape and bone quality due to progression of callus remodeling.

Background: There is no consensus on the association between final local kyphosis and residual back pain (RBP) after traumatic vertebral fracture. The aim of this study was to investigate whether there is an association between the final local kyphosis angle and RBP in patients with traumatic vertebral fractures at the thoracolumbar junction who underwent single posterior surgery with percutaneous pedicle screws and implant removal after fracture healing. A second goal was to determine the optimal cut-off value for the final local kyphosis angle with and without RBP.

Degradation products of magnesium implant synergistically enhance bone regeneration: Unraveling the roles of hydrogen gas and alkaline environment.

Bioact Mater

April 2025

Musculoskeletal Research Laboratory of Department of Orthopaedics & Traumatology, Innovative Orthopaedic Biomaterial and Drug Translational Research Laboratory, Li Ka Shing Institute of Health Sciences, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong SAR, China.

Biodegradable magnesium (Mg) implant generally provides temporary fracture fixation and facilitates bone regeneration. However, the exact effects of generated Mg ions (Mg), hydrogen gas (H), and hydroxide ions (OH) by Mg degradation on enhancing fracture healing are not fully understood. Here we investigate the degradation of Mg intramedullary nail (Mg-IMN), revealing the generation of these degradation products around the fracture site during early stages.

Minimally Invasive Radial-Ulnar and Tibial Fracture Management with Supracutaneous Locking Plates in Dogs and Cats.

Vet Comp Orthop Traumatol

January 2025

Department of Surgery, University of Ondokuz Mayıs, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Samsun, Turkey.

Objective:  This study aimed to report the clinical, radiographic, and computed tomography results of supracutaneous locking plate (SLP) application in radial-ulnar and tibial fractures.

Study Design:  In this clinical prospective study, cats and dogs with nonarticular radial, ulnar, and tibial fractures were managed with SLP. Surgical records, fracture healing, complications, and lameness were reviewed during scheduled rechecks.

Background: The periosteum is the main organ responsible for bone regeneration. Vascularized Periosteal Grafts (VPG) have demonstrated exceptional efficacy and speed in facilitating bone union among children with challenging bone healing conditions. Despite their promising results, the overall impact of these interventions has yet to be comprehensively evaluated through systematic review.
