Objective: Assessment of habitual physical activity (PA) in patients with heart failure.

Methods: This study included 50 patients with heart failure (61.9 ± 4.0 yr). Seven days of PA were assessed by questionnaire (AQ), pedometer, and accelerometer and correlated with prognostic markers including VO(2peak), percent left-ventricular ejection fraction, N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide, and New York Heart Association (NYHA) functional class.

Results: Accelerometry showed a stronger correlation with VO(2peak) and NYHA class (R = .73 and R = -.68; p < .001) than AQ (R = .58 and R = -.65; p < .001) or pedometer (R = .52 and R = -.50; p < .001). In the multivariable regression model accelerometry was the only consistent independent predictor of VO(2peak) (p = .002). Moreover, when its accuracy of prediction was tested, 59% of NYHA I and 95% of NYHA III patients were correctly classified into their assigned NYHA classes based on their accelerometer activity.

Conclusion: PA assessed by accelerometer is significantly associated with exercise capacity in patients with heart failure and is predictive of disease severity. The data suggests that PA monitoring can aid in evaluating clinical status.

Aim: There are limited data on the prevalence of calcific aortic valve disease (CAVD) in Māori and known inequities in outcomes after aortic valve intervention. Our study aimed to investigate the prevalence of CAVD in Māori.

Methods: Data from initial clinically indicated echocardiograms performed between 2010 to 2018 in patients aged ≥18 years were linked to nationally collected outcome data.

Patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) are vital tools in cardiovascular disease (CVD) research and care, providing insights that complement traditional clinical outcomes like mortality and morbidity. PROMs capture patient experiences with CVD, such as quality of life, functional capacity, and emotional well-being, allowing clinicians to assess how interventions impact daily life. PROMs are integral to cardiovascular investigations as well as management, especially in chronic conditions and rehabilitation, where they inform on the impact of personalized care plans by tracking symptom progression and patient adherence.

We aimed to investigate the impact of virtual reality (VR) on maternal anxiety, satisfaction, and fetal physiological parameters during non-stress test (NST) in pregnant women. We conducted an extensive search across numerous databases to identify eligible studies from inception to April 2024. Researchers included randomized trials that compared VR intervention during NSTs in the third trimester with control groups.

Objective: A proof-of-concept study aimed at designing and implementing Visual & Interactive Engagement With Electronic Records (VIEWER), a versatile toolkit for visual analytics of clinical data, and systematically evaluating its effectiveness across various clinical applications while gathering feedback for iterative improvements.

Materials And Methods: VIEWER is an open-source and extensible toolkit that employs natural language processing and interactive visualization techniques to facilitate the rapid design, development, and deployment of clinical information retrieval, analysis, and visualization at the point of care. Through an iterative and collaborative participatory design approach, VIEWER was designed and implemented in one of the United Kingdom's largest National Health Services mental health Trusts, where its clinical utility and effectiveness were assessed using both quantitative and qualitative methods.

January 2025

Department of Biotechnology, School of Biosciences and Technology, VIT University, Vellore, India.

Cyclophosphamide is a key component of numerous chemotherapeutic protocols, demonstrating broad-spectrum efficacy against various malignancies and non-cancerous conditions. This review examines CPM's metabolic pathways, therapeutic applications, and its resulting organ-specific toxicities. Despite its clinical benefits in treating nephrotic syndrome, encephalomyelitis, breast cancer, ovarian cancer, and other diseases, CPM is associated with significant adverse effects on the kidneys, liver, heart, lungs, and intestines.
