Background: Periprosthetic femur fractures (PFF) are a rare early complication in primary total hip arthroplasty (THA) that may result in revision and burden the healthcare system. A previous study identified a PFF rate of 8.3 % at 90 days with the modified anterolateral Watson-Jones (AL) approach to THA.

Purpose: Laparoscopic gastrectomy (LG) is a promising approach for older patients who require less invasive surgery because of their reduced functional reserve and increased comorbidities, with the expansion of its indication to locally advanced gastric cancer. However, the specific benefits of LG in older patients remain unclear. We evaluated whether LG positively influences the postoperative maintenance of skeletal muscle (SM) and bodyweight (BW).

Background: The purpose of this study was to compare complication rates and clinical outcomes at 1 year or until death based on the surgical approach for total hip replacement in femoral neck fractures.
Methods: This retrospective study was performed on 101 patients with displaced femoral neck fractures at our institution between 2005 and 2022. All surgeries were performed by fellowship-trained arthroplasty surgeons via either a posterior Kocher-Langenbeck approach, an abductor sparing anterolateral approach, or a direct anterior approach.

Introduction: The muscle-sparing direct anterior approach (DAA) for total hip arthroplasty (THA) has gained popularity for reduced postoperative pain and faster rehabilitation. The aim of this study was to evaluate the potential benefits of transitioning from straight lateral approach (SLA) THA to DAA THA, and investigate whether these benefits outweigh potential disadvantages of the DAA learning curve.
Method: Patients undergoing surgery between 2015 and 2020 ( = 2275) were categorised into three periods: pre-transition period (2015-2016) utilizing SLA exclusively, transition period (2017-2018) incorporating both SLA and DAA, and post-transition period (2019-2020) employing only DAA.
