Acute esophageal necrosis (AEN) is an uncommon endoscopic finding characterized by a patchy or diffuse circumferential black pigmentation of the esophageal mucosa, corresponding to ischemic necrosis. It usually presents with upper gastrointestinal bleeding and is thought to be caused by a systemic low blood flow in patients with predisposing risk factors, like advanced age and cardiovascular comorbidities. After initial hemodynamic stabilization, diagnosis is established by esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) with careful biopsies and histological evaluation.

The aim of this study was to assess the effect of a chlorhexidine digluconate solution (CHX) applied as an antiproteolytic agent for controlling erosive tooth wear or as part of the adhesive treatment on long-term bond strength to eroded dentin. Dentin specimens were abraded with a 600-grit silicon carbide (SiC) paper for 1 min (sound dentin - S), subsequently treated with 2% CHX for 1 min (with excess removed, followed by a 6-hour rest), and eroded by exposure to Coca-Cola for 5 min, three times a day, for 5 days (CHX-treated and eroded dentin - CHXE), or only eroded (eroded dentin - E). Herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) has long been recognized as a potential trigger for BD, as it can induce systemic inflammation and exacerbate symptoms. In contrast, Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) has recently emerged and may also initiate or worsen BD symptoms.

Objective: Previous studies on the efficacy of methotrexate in people with hand osteoarthritis (OA) have shown conflicting results. The MERINO trial aims to investigate the efficacy and safety of methotrexate in people with painful inflammatory erosive hand OA.
Design: In total 163 participants with erosive hand OA, synovitis by ultrasound, and finger joint pain of 40-80 mm on a visual analogue scale (VAS) will be recruited from a rheumatology outpatient clinic.
