The first cationic 1,2-azaborine adducts of neutral phosphorous- and oxygen-based nucleophiles have been synthesized and characterized via spectroscopic and single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis.

In the post-COVID-19 era, drug-resistant bacterial infections emerge as one of major death causes, where multidrug-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii (MRAB) and drug-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa (DRPA) represent primary pathogens. However, the classical antibiotic strategy currently faces the bottleneck of drug resistance. We develop an antimicrobial strategy that applies the selective delivery of CRISPR/Cas9 plasmids to pathogens with biomimetic cationic hybrid vesicles (BCVs), irrelevant to bacterial drug resistance.

Tuberculosis (TB) remains a significant global health challenge, latently affecting around a quarter of the global population. The sole licensed TB vaccine, Mycobacterium bovis Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG), shows variable efficacy, particularly among adolescents and adults, underscoring the pressing need for more effective vaccination strategies. The administration route is crucial for vaccine efficacy, and administration via the skin, being rich in immune cells, may offer advantages over conventional subcutaneous routes, which lack direct access to abundant antigen-presenting cells.

The incidence of serious lung infections due to Mycobacterium abscessus, a worrying non-tuberculosis mycobacteria (NTM) species, is rising and has in some countries surpassed tuberculosis. NTM are ubiquitous in the environment and can cause serious lung infections in people who are immunocompromised or have pre-existing lung conditions. M.

Background: The application of '-omics' technologies to study bacterial vaginosis (BV) has uncovered vast differences in composition and scale between the vaginal microbiomes of healthy and BV patients. Compared to amplicon sequencing and shotgun metagenomic approaches focusing on a single or few species, investigating the transcriptome of the vaginal microbiome at a system-wide level can provide insight into the functions which are actively expressed and differential between states of health and disease.
Results: We conducted a meta-analysis of vaginal metatranscriptomes from three studies, split into exploratory (n = 42) and validation (n = 297) datasets, accounting for the compositional nature of sequencing data and differences in scale between healthy and BV microbiomes.

Ophthalmic disorders significantly impact global health, affecting millions worldwide. Conventional treatments often face challenges related to poor bioavailability and short residence times on the ocular surface. In recent years, in-situ gels prepared using different natural gums including gellan gum has been investigated as a viable means of improving ocular medication delivery.
