Selective site pacing in paediatric patients: how to recreate a new loop in the right atrium to follow body growth.

Published: July 2011

In children, intracardiac loops are created to avoid a lead's fracture due to rapid body growth. Selective site pacing needs the insertion of two 4.1 Fr lumenless leads that do not allow direct manoeuvrability and should be extracted when tension on the lead occurs. We describe an easy, safe, and inexpensive technique to reposition the leads and generate new intracardiac loops.

First report of foliar blight of castor bean caused by in Sinaloa, Mexico.

Castor bean (Ricinus communis) is cultivated agriculturally for oil and ornamentally for its bright foliage and seed. Ornamental castor bean has naturalized in many areas of the world, including the state of Sinaloa, Mexico, where it is not planted commercially. In a survey conducted in 2019 in Sinaloa, wild castor bean was found widely affected by a foliar blight with symptoms similar to Alternaria ricini previously described in the United States (Stevenson 1945) and in the state of Chiapas, Mexico (López-Guillén et al.

The role of Environmental Monitoring has evolved alongside the manufacturing processes and filling technologies its aims to monitor, and so should the risk assessment tools we implement for establishing this important program. Sample site selection, appropriateness of sampling methods, sampling volumes and sampling frequencies are all important components of contamination control for a facility and must be evaluated as appropriate using a robust risk assessment. The types of environmental monitoring required for a robust program will vary based on the type of operation, frequency in which that operation is performed, and the level of risk associated to the process.

The treatment of stress-related disorders such as anxiety and depression is still challenging. One potential therapeutical option are neurosteroids. Their synthesis is promoted by ligands of the mitochondrial translocator protein 18 kDa (TSPO).

The protein tyrosine phosphatase Lyp/PTPN22 drives TNFα-induced priming of superoxide anions production by neutrophils and arthritis.

Neutrophils are essential for host defense against infections, but they also play a key role in acute and chronic inflammation. The protein tyrosine phosphatase non-receptor type 22 (PTPN22) gene encodes the lymphoid-specific tyrosine phosphatase (Lyp) and a genetic single-nucleotide polymorphism of PTPN22 rs2476601 (R620W) has been associated with several human autoimmune diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Here, we investigated the role of Lyp in TNFα-induced priming of neutrophil ROS production and in the development of arthritis using new selective Lyp inhibitors.

Antimicrobial resistance is considered a global One Health threat. Controlling selection pressure by reducing antibiotic use in livestock is a significant component of the response to this threat. The science concerning use and resistance is complicated and affected by time from antibiotic exposure, changing bacterial fitness, and varies by drug and pathogen.
