Article Abstract

Objective: To develop a method for the rapid determination of ethanol in blood with capillary-GC.

Methods: 0.50 mL of whole blood sample was taken and added with 1.00 mL of dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), and 2 g of anhydrous sodium sulfate. The supernatant of the sample solution was directly injected into GC for analysis.

Results: Ethanol was separated from other substances in the sample. The liner range of ethanol detected by the capillary-GC was 0.0-300.0 mg/100 mL, and the detection limit was 0.2 mg/100 mL. The RSD for standard solution determination was 1.36%. Satisfactory results were obtained for the determination of ethanol in whole blood samples, with recoveries ranging from 90.9% to 107.3% and a RSD of 1.98%. The combined uncertainty was 2.2%.

Conclusion: This is a rapid, sensitive and simple method for determination of ethanol in large quantities of samples. The method has shortened the duration of analysis cycle in comparison with the traditional headspace-GC, with a reduction from 20-30 min to less than 10 min.

A lanthanide ion-based metal-organic framework (Eu-TATAB nanorods) was designed and synthesized as an effective tri-mode nanoprobe for sensitive and portable detection of ethanol content in a water-ethanol mixture. The assay was based on the responsive properties of Eu-TATAB nanorods to ethanol stimulus and their adaptive encapsulation capability towards optically active lanthanides. With the addition of ethanol to the Eu-TATAB nanorods, the structure was destroyed, resulting in a decrease in luminescence, electrochemiluminescence, and ultraviolet-visible spectrophotometric signals by perturbing energy transfer in the Eu-TATAB nanorods.

Preparation of bovine serum albumin nanospheres desolvation: a study of synthesis, characterization, and aging.

Nanoscale

January 2025

School of Sustainable Chemical, Biological and Materials Engineering, University of Oklahoma, Norman, OK 73019, USA.

Serum albumin has myriad uses in biotechnology, but its value as a nanocarrier or nanoplatform for therapeutics is becoming increasingly important, notably with albumin-bound chemotherapeutics. Another emerging field is the fabrication of biopolymeric nanoparticles using albumin as a building block to achieve highly-tunable nonimmunogenic capsules or scaffolds that may be cheaply and reliably produced. The aim of this study was to characterize and optimize the desolvation process used for fabrication of albumin nanoparticles under ambient conditions, studying both glutaraldehyde (GT) and glucose (GLU) as crosslinking agents and the effect of various synthesis conditions including pH, electrolyte concentration, and rate of desolvation on particle size and stability.

Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Drug Research, Punjabi University, Patiala, India.

Objective: The present study aims to develop and evaluate the voriconazole-loaded thermoresponsive hydrogel using tools.

Methods: Poloxamer 407 and PEG 400 were selected as the components from studies for thermoresponsive hydrogel of voriconazole. The cohesive energy density (CED) and solubility parameters (SP) were calculated using Biovia Material Studio 2022 software to predict the polymer-polymer miscibility and drug-polymer miscibility.
