The hemostatic balance is a complex system where the delicate equilibrium is regulated by several factors including hormones. A variety of endocrine disorders have been reported to be associated with coagulation abnormalities, ranging from mild laboratory changes to clinically relevant thrombotic or bleeding manifestations. In this review, we summarize the current knowledge on the main abnormalities of the coagulation and fibrinolytic systems associated with thyroid dysfunctions. Overall, although mostly based on uncontrolled studies, data in the literature suggest that patients with hyperthyroidism or subclinical hypothyroidism have a hypercoagulative state, whereas patients with overt hypothyroidism have a bleeding tendency.

Background: Clot waveform analysis (CWA) provides a global assessment of hemostasis and may be useful for patients with cirrhosis with complex hemostatic abnormalities. This study aimed to assess the association between prothrombin time (PT-) and activated partial thromboplastin time (aPTT-) based CWA parameters and cirrhosis severity and prospectively evaluate the role of CWA in predicting mortality and acute decompensation (AD) over 1 year.
Methods: This prospective study included adult patients with cirrhosis between June 2021 and December 2023 at Chulalongkorn University Hospital.

Methods: We used data of 2,923 plasma proteins from 51,296 non-demented middle-aged adults in the UK Biobank with 15 years of follow-up. Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) is a technique used to support severe cardiopulmonary failure. Its potential life-saving benefits are tempered by the significant risk for acute brain injury (ABI), from both primary pathophysiologic factors and ECMO-related complications through central nervous system cellular injury, blood-brain barrier dysfunction (BBB), systemic inflammation and neuroinflammation, and coagulopathy. Plasma biomarkers are an emerging tool used to stratify risk for and diagnose ABI, and prognosticate neurofunctional outcomes.
