Published: September 2010

Objective: To study the lignan of Polygonum capitatum.

Methods: The compounds were isolated and purified by using of SiO2, Sephadex LH-20 column chromatography and pre-HPLC. The structures of the compounds were determined on the basis of their physical properties and the spectral data.

Results: Four compounds were isolated and identified as schizandriside (1), (-)-isolariciresinol-2a-O-beta-D-xylopyranoside (2), (-) -5 '-methoxyisolariciresinol-2a-O-beta-D-xylopyranoside (3) and nudiposide (4).

Conclusion: Compounds 1 - 4 are isolated from the genus for the first time.

German Collection of Microorganisms and Cell Cultures, Leibniz Institute DSMZ, Inhoffenstraße 7B, 38124 Braunschweig, Germany.

strains DSM 116494 and DSM 116496 were isolated from sediment samples of the River Oker in Braunschweig, Germany, and subjected to a polyphasic taxonomic study and genome mining for specialized secondary metabolites. Phenotypic, genetic and genomic data confirmed the assignment of these strains to the genus. Pairwise 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity values between the strains and validly named species reached 99.

Four new oxepin and dihydrobenzofuran derivatives, saccoxepins A-C (1-3) and saccobenzofurin A (4), along with one known compound, bauhinoxepin A (5), were isolated from the roots of Bauhinia saccocalyx. The structures were elucidated by extensive analysis of spectroscopic data in combination with ECD analysis. The EtOAc extract exhibited significant NO inhibition (94.

Background: The anterolateral thigh perforator flap is frequently used for massive soft-tissue defect reconstruction. Cadaver perfusion examinations of isolated anterolateral thigh flaps have suggested a maximum skin area that may be vascularized based on the perforating vessels (ie, 250 cm2). Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate a series of consecutive cases involving use of extended anterolateral thigh flaps for oncologic reconstruction of massive soft-tissue defects.

Three new aromatic polyketides, spirocyclione C (1) and angumycinones E and F (2 and3), were isolated from the heterologous expression of a type II gene cluster in the strain of A3(2) assisted by the one strain many compounds (OSMAC) strategy. The structures and absolute configurations of these compounds were elucidated by extensive NMR, MS, theoretical NMR calculations, DP4+ probability analysis, and ECD analyses. Notably, compound 1 represents the first example of an angucycline structure with an unusual oxaspiro[5.
