Background: we assessed the tolerability and efficacy of autologous skin cell grafts in older type 2 diabetic patients with chronic foot ulcers.

Methods: treatment with Hyalograft 3D and Laserskin Autograft was proposed to a consecutive series of type 2 diabetic patients older than 65 years affected by long-standing (>6 months) foot ulcers with an area greater than 15 cm(2). Ulcer healing rates and measurements of ulcer area were determined monthly for 12 months.

Results: seven patients with 12 ulcers, nine of which received the described treatment, were enrolled. During 12-month follow-up, all of the ulcers healed except one. In the remaining eight ulcers, the median healing time was 21 weeks (interquartile range, 4-29 weeks).

Conclusions: autologous skin cell grafts are feasible, well tolerated, and apparently effective in the treatment of diabetic ulcers of the lower limbs in advanced age. Age did not seem to moderate healing times.

Refractory lipoatrophy treated with autologous whole blood injection: A case report.

World J Clin Cases

January 2025

Department of Dermatology, College of Medicine, Chungbuk National University, Cheongju 28644, Chungbuk, South Korea.

Background: Intramuscular corticosteroid injection may cause adverse effects such as dermal and/or subcutaneous atrophy, alopecia, hypopigmentation, and hyperpigmentation. Although cutaneous atrophy can spontaneously resolve, several treatment options have been suggested for this condition.

Case Summary: In this paper, we report a case of corticosteroid injection induced lipoatrophy treated with autologous whole blood (AWB) injection, as the condition had been unresponsive to fractional laser therapy.

In recent years, minimally invasive breast surgery (MIBS) has revolutionized breast cancer treatment, allowing for preservation of aesthetic outcomes while ensuring oncological safety. However, this has created a new challenge in maintaining optimal visualization and dexterity during microvascular anastomosis which is critical for successful autologous tissue reconstruction. Traditional retractors often limit maneuverability, potentially impacting the outcomes of anastomotic procedures.

Thermal or burn injuries cause coagulative necrosis of the epidermis and underlying tissues and the resultant wounds can be long lasting and highly painful. Depending on the depth of a burn, management ranges from local wound care to surgical intervention. When presented with deep-partial thickness and full-thickness burns, autologous skin grafting has been the mainstay of management to prevent scarring and promote healing.
