The provenance of Precambrian detritus in the Junggar and Altai terranes provides crucial constraints on the peri-Siberian accretionary tectonic evolution in the middle Paleozoic. The Precambrian detrital zircons have no coeval magmatic equivalents in the Junggar terrane but show U-Pb age spectra and ε(t) values comparable to those in the Altai terrane. The correlations suggest that the old detrital materials in the Junggar and Altai terranes were most likely derived from the Siberia craton and adjacent Tuva-Mongolian microcontinent.

Understanding the sources of mercury (Hg) in coal is crucial for understanding the natural Hg cycle in the Earth's system, as coal is a natural Hg reservoir. We conducted analyses on the mass-dependent fractionation (MDF), reported as δHg, and mass-independent fractionation (MIF), reported as ΔHg, of Hg isotopes among individual Hg species and total Hg (THg) in Chinese coal samples. This data, supplemented by a review of prior research, allowed us to discern the varying trend of THg isotope fractionation with coal THg content.

Particularly, the transformation from ancient crustal nuclei into mature Archaean cratons is unclear, primarily owing to the paucity of well-preserved Eoarchaean-Palaeoarchaean 'protocrust'. Disentangling inputs of aeolian dust, ice-rafted debris (IRD), and eroded continental detritus delivered by ocean currents to marine sediments provide important insights into Earth System processes and climate. This study uses Sr-Nd-Pb isotope ratios of the continent-derived (lithogenic) fraction in deep-sea core TN057-6 from the subantarctic Southern Ocean southwest of Africa over the past 150,000 y to identify source regions and quantify their relative contributions and fluxes utilizing a mixing model set in a Bayesian framework. The data are compared with proxies from parallel core Ocean Drilling Program Site 1090 and newly presented data from potential South America aeolian dust source areas (PSAs), allowing for an integrated investigation into atmospheric, oceanic, and cryospheric dynamics.
