Directed transport of overdamped Brownian particles driven by fractional Gaussian noises is investigated in asymmetrically periodic potentials. By using Langevin dynamics simulations, we find that rectified currents occur in the absence of any external driving forces. Unlike white Gaussian noises, fractional Gaussian noises can break thermodynamical equilibrium and induce directed transport. Remarkably, the average velocity for persistent fractional noise is opposite to that for antipersistent fractional noise. The velocity increases monotonically with Hurst exponent for the persistent case, whereas there exists an optimal value of Hurst exponent at which the velocity takes its maximal value for the antipersistent case.

Lifespan Normative Models of White Matter Fractional Anisotropy: Applications to Early Psychosis.

This study presents large-scale normative models of white matter (WM) organization across the lifespan, using diffusion MRI data from over 25,000 healthy individuals aged 0-100 years. These models capture lifespan trajectories and inter-individual variation in fractional anisotropy (FA), a marker of white matter integrity. By addressing non-Gaussian data distributions, race, and site effects, the models offer reference baselines across diverse ages, ethnicities, and scanning conditions.

Statistics of random walks in geologically relevant conductance fields.

Statistics of diffusion, modeled by random walks, such as the mean number of distinct sites visited S(t) at time t, the mean probability P_{0}(t) of being at the origin of the walk, and the mean-squared displacements 〈R^{2}(t)〉 of the random walkers have been studied extensively in the past in both regular lattices and such disordered media as percolation clusters and other fractal structures, and universal power laws for such quantities have been derived. S(t) provides insight into reaction properties of geological formations, while P_{0}(t) is directly linked with the problem of back diffusion in remediation of groundwater aquifers. In all such studies, it was assumed that the conductances of the bonds that connect nearest-neighbor sites of the lattices are equal.

Purpose: To evaluate the Mean Apparent Propagator (MAP) MRI for processing multi-shell diffusion imaging in patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS) and correlate to diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) and neurite orientation and dispersion density imaging (NODDI).

Methods: We enrolled patients with AIS from 1/2022 to 4/2024 who underwent multi-shell diffusion imaging on a 3.0-Tesla scanner to generate DTI, NODDI and MAP measures.

Article Synopsis
  • Heart failure (HF) is linked to brain abnormalities and cognitive impairments, with this study analyzing structural and functional brain changes in 49 chronic HF patients compared to 49 healthy controls.
  • Structural MRI revealed reduced gray matter volume (GMV), impaired white matter integrity, and decreased functional connectivity in HF patients, with significant correlations between GMV and cognitive performance.
  • The findings suggest that GMV could be a useful neuroimaging biomarker for cognitive issues and a potential target for future neuroprotective therapies in chronic HF patients.

As a class of integer-order vector beams, hybridly polarized vector beams (HPVBs) are widely used in focus shaping, femtosecond laser filamentation, linear and nonlinear polarization evolution, etc. Recently, fractional-order vector beams have gained widespread interest due to their more control parameters, rich photophysical properties, and novel nonlinear optical phenomena. In this work, we report the experimental generation, focusing and propagation characteristics, and spatial self-phase modulation (SSPM) phenomenon of fractional-order HPVBs.
