A 45-year-old man underwent a low anterior resection for rectal cancer [T3, N1, M0, Stage IIa: UICC]. He received a postoperative systemic chemotherapy with 5-FU and LV. Five months after the operation, multiple liver metastases were detected in the right hepatic lobe (S5, 6, 8). Right hepatectomy was performed. Seventeen courses of postoperative hepatic arterial infusion (HAI) chemotherapy (weekly high-dose 5-FU regimen) were performed without severe adverse events. He was still alive with no sign of recurrence for 69 months after hepatectomy. After liver resection for metastases of colorectal cancer, although a systemic chemotherapy has been mainly performed, HAI chemotherapy is one of the important options for prevention of local recurrence.

Neuroendocrine tumors (NENs) originate from neuroendocrine cells and predominantly occur in the gastrointestinal tract, lungs, and pancreas. Although the liver is commonly involved in NEN metastasis, primary hepatic neuroendocrine tumors (PHNETs) are rare. Herein, we report a case of a 52-year-old female who presented with slowly enlarging, cystic, multiple PHNETs.

Background: While evidence from preclinical and observational cohort studies have suggested potential disparities in tumour behaviour associated with the choice of intra-operative anaesthetics, clinical evidence of tumour recurrence and metastasis remains inconclusive. We aimed to compare the impact of intra-operative anaesthesia on oncologic outcomes following hepatectomy for hepatocellular carcinoma.
Methods: Adult patients scheduled for elective hepatectomy for hepatocellular carcinoma were assigned randomly (1:1) to either propofol-based total intravenous anaesthesia or sevoflurane-based inhalational anaesthesia.

Nucleotide availability is crucial for DNA replication and repair; however, the coordinating mechanisms in vivo remain unclear. Here, we show that the circadian clock in the liver controls the activity of the pentose phosphate pathway (PPP) to support de novo nucleotide biosynthesis for DNA synthesis demands. We demonstrate that disrupting the hepatic clock by genetic manipulation or mistimed feeding impairs PPP activity in male mice, leading to nucleotide imbalance.

Multimorbidity is characterized by the presence of at least 3 chronic diseases with a prevalence of more than 50% of patients over 60 years old. The Charlson comorbidity index (CCI) enables a description of the severity of the multimorbidity and also provides a correlation with the postoperative outcome after liver resection. According to this, multimorbid patients are at increased risk of morbidity and mortality after liver resection, mostly due to postoperative liver failure.
