Published: February 2011

Crystalline microporous cobalt and nickel bisphosphonates with a hexagonal array of one-dimensional channels 1.8 nm in diameter have been prepared hydrothermally and provide the first example of the use of isoreticular chemistry in the synthesis of phosphonate metal-organic frameworks. The materials contain both physisorbed and coordinating water molecules in the as-prepared form, but these can be removed to give permanent extra-large microporosity, with pore volumes of up to 0.68 cm(3) g(-1), and coordinatively unsaturated sites, with concentrations up to 4.25 mmol g(-1).

Pb is a prevalent heavy metal contaminant in the habitats of herbivorous insects. This study investigated the tolerance level of Lymantria dispar larvae to Pb and its corresponding mechanism focusing on the role of ZIP genes. The detrimental impacts of Pb on larval growth and survival exhibited a dose-dependent relationship, with a survival rate of 48 % even at the extreme concentration of 3424 mg/kg.

This study conducts a rigorous comparative analysis between two cutting-edge instance segmentation methods, Mask R-CNN and YOLOv8, focusing on stomata pore analysis. A novel dataset specifically tailored for stomata pore instance segmentation, named PhenomicsStomata, was introduced. This dataset posed challenges such as low resolution and image imperfections, prompting the application of advanced preprocessing techniques, including image enhancement using the Lucy-Richardson Algorithm.

Unlabelled: Myeloid phagocytes are essential for antifungal immunity against pulmonary and systemic infections. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying fungal clearance by phagocytes remain incompletely understood. In this study, we investigated the role of Perforin-2 () in antifungal immunity.

Investigating effects of thermokarst lakes on permafrost under equilibrium conditions.

Department of Civil Engineering, Queen's University, 99 University Ave, Kingston K7L3N5, ON, Canada. Electronic address:

The degradation of permafrost due to climate change has significant effects on the hydrological processes and ecosystems in arctic and subarctic regions. Thermokarst lakes, formed from permafrost thaw and subsidence, play a crucial role in this process by influencing heat storage and exchange and accelerating the thaw rate of the surrounding permafrost. A direct effect of these lakes is the formation of taliks, perennially thawed soil.
