In the mononuclear title compound, [Ni(C(8)H(7)O(2))(2)(C(3)H(4)N(2))(2)(H(2)O)], the Ni(II) atom is coordinated by three carboxylate O atoms (from a bidentate 4-methyl-benzoate ligand and a monodentate 4-methyl-benzoate ligand), two N atoms (from two imidazole ligands) and a water mol-ecule in an octa-hedral geometry. Inter-molecular O-H⋯O hydrogen-bonding inter-actions lead to infinite chains, which are further self-assembled into a supra-molecular network through inter-molecular N-H⋯O hydrogen-bonding inter-actions and π-π stacking [centroid-centroid distance = 3.717 (2) Å].

The hydro-thermal synthesis and crystal structure of the title two-dimensional coordination polymer, poly[bis-(μ-3,4-di-amino-benzoato-κ ,,')manganese(II)], [Mn(CHNO)] , are described. The Mn cation (site symmetry ) adopts a tetra-gonally elongated -MnNO octa-hedral coordination geometry and the μ-,,' ligand (bonding from both carboxyl-ate O atoms and the -N atom) links the metal ions into infinite (10) layers. The packing is consolidated by intra-layer N-H⋯O and inter-layer N-H⋯N hydrogen bonds.

In the dinuclear centrosymmetric title compound, [Cd2(C8H7O2)4(C6H6N2O)2(H2O)2], the Cd(II) ion is chelated by two carboxyl-ate groups from 4-methyl-benzoate anions, and is further coordinated by one nicotinamide and one water mol-ecule; a carboxyl-ate O atom from an adjacent 4-methyl-benzoate anion bridges to the Cd(II) ion, completing the irregular coordination sphere of the seven ligand atoms. In the crystal, inter-molecular O-H⋯O, N-H⋯O and weak C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds link the mol-ecules into a three-dimensional network. The methyl-benzene moiety of one bridging 4-methyl-benzoate anion is disordered over two orientations of equal occupancy.

In the centrosymmetric title compound, [Cu(C(8)H(7)O(2))(2)(C(6)H(6)N(2)O)(2)]·2H(2)O, the Cu(II) ion is located on a crystallographic inversion center. The asymmetric unit is completed by one 4-methyl-benzoate anion, one isonicotinamide (INA) ligand and one uncoordinated water mol-ecule; all the ligands are monodentate. The two O and the two N atoms around the Cu(II) ion form a slightly distorted square-planar arrangement.

In the title compound, [Pb(C(8)H(7)O(2))(2)(C(6)H(6)N(2)O)](n), the Pb(II) ion is coordinated by two 4-methyl-benzoate (PMB) and one nicotinamide (NA) ligands while symmetry-related NA ligands bridge adjacent Pb(II) ions, forming polymeric chains along the c axis. The carboxyl-ate groups in the two PMB ions are twisted away from the attached benzene ring by 22.9 (2) and 4.

The Cu(II) atom in the title salt, [Cu(C(10)H(24)N(4))(H(2)O)(2)](C(8)H(7)O(2))(2)·H(2)O, is chelated by the four N atoms of the 1,4,8,11-tetra-aza-cyclo-tetra-decane (cyclam) ligand and is coordinated by two water mol-ecules in a Jahn-Teller-type of tetra-gonally distorted octa-hedral geometry. The cations, anions and lattice water mol-ecules are linked by N-H⋯O and O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds to form a layer structure parallel to (001).
