Bis(benzimidazolium) naphthalene-1,5-disulfonate trihydrate.

Acta Crystallogr Sect E Struct Rep Online

Published: March 2008

The title compound, 2C(7)H(7)N(2) (+)·C(10)H(6)O(6)S(2) (2-)·3H(2)O, consists of two crystallographically independent benzimidazolium cations, two independent naphthalene-1,5-disulfonate dianions (both generated by inversion) and three water mol-ecules. These components construct an infinite three-dimensional framework in the crystal structure via O-H⋯O and N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds.

Integrated "all-in-one" strategy to construct highly efficient Pd catalyst for CO transformation.

The synthesis of high-value chemicals featuring C-C and/or C-heteroatom bonds CO is critically important, yet efficiently converting thermodynamically stable and kinetically inert linear CO and propargylic amine to the heterocyclic compound 2-oxazolidinone with an integrated catalytic system continues to pose a considerable challenge. Herein, we have designed an "all-in-one" (AIO) palladium (Pd) catalyst (Cat1), distinguished by its co-coordination with acetylglucose (AcGlu) and bis(benzimidazolium) units at the Pd center, which promotes the cyclization of CO and propargylic amine achieving a highest turnover frequency (TOF) of up to 3456 h. Moreover, Cat1 demonstrates excellent stability across various temperatures, with its catalytic activity remaining unchanged even after 10 cycles.

Confronting the Threat: Designing Highly Effective bis-Benzimidazolium Agents to Overcome Biofilm Persistence and Antimicrobial Resistance.

The objective of this study is to take the initial steps toward developing novel antibiotics to counteract the escalating problem of antimicrobial and bacterial persistence, particularly in relation to biofilms. Our approach involves emulating the structural characteristics of cationic antimicrobial peptides. To circumvent resistance development, we have designed a library of bis-benzimidazolium salts that selectively target the microbial membranes in a nonspecific manner.

A novel non-C-symmetric -benzimidazolium salt derived from (±)-valinol has been prepared by a simple and straightforward process in good yield. The structure of -benzimidazolium salt provided a bulky steric group on the ethylene bridge; which facilitates the catalytic efficacy in the C()-C() formation. Its catalytic activity in Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reaction of unactivated aryl chlorides has been found to have high efficacy in 1 mol% Pd loading.

A dicationic photoredox catalyst composed of phenylene-bridged bis(benzimidazolium) (BBIm) was designed, synthesised and demonstrated to promote the photochemical decarboxylative hydroxylation and dimerisation of carboxylic acids. The catalytic activity of BBIm was higher than that for a monocation analogue, suggesting that the dicationic nature of BBIm plays a key role in these decarboxylative reactions. The rate constant for the decay of the triplet-triplet absorption of the excited BBIm increased with increasing concentration of the carboxylate anion with a saturated dependence, suggesting that photoinduced electron transfer occurs within the ion pair complex composed of the triplet excited state of BBIm and a carboxylate anion.

Two macrocycle-based sensors for anions sensing.

Sci Rep

Two macrocyclic bis-benzimidazolium salts 2 and 4 (23-membered for 2 and 25-membered for 4) were prepared, and their structures were confirmed by X-ray crystallography, H NMR and C NMR spectroscopy. The research of anion recognitions using 2 or 4 as hosts were carried out with the methods of fluorescence and ultraviolet spectroscopy, H NMR titrations, MS and IR spectra. The experiment results show that 2 can detect acetate anion and 4 can detect nitrate anion with favorable selectivity and sensitivity.
