The title complex, {[Ni(C(7)H(7)N(4)O(2))]OH}(n), has been prepared through hydro-thermal synthesis. The asymmetric unit contains one [Ni(TH)](+) cation (TH is the theophylline anion) and one hydroxide anion. The Ni(2+) ion is coordinated by two N atoms from two neighboring theophylline anions. The alternating linkage of the Ni(2+) cation and theophylline anion results in a one-dimensional chain along the [010] direction. Intermolec-ular O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds are present n the crystal structure.

Alcohol-induced dose dumping (AIDD) remains a serious challenge in the controlled delivery of high potency drugs, such as opioids, which requires extensive investigation and innovative solutions. Current technologies rely on ethanol-insoluble excipients, such as guar gum and sodium alginate, to counteract the increased solubility of hydrophobic polymeric excipients in ethanol. However, these excipients pose several shortcomings, such as high viscosity of coating dispersion, high solution temperature, rapid gelation, and heterogeneity of resulted film.

The design of additives for perovskite-based solar cells seeks to improve the balance between stability and power conversion efficiency. Organic molecules such as theophylline, theobromine and caffeine (xanthines) have proved to be a good engineering solution. As an alternative, we present a first-principles study of the use of organic cations as additives.

Photoluminescent polymers can be divided into two types of structures: one is the well-known conventional π-conjugated rigid chain polymers bearing π-conjugated chromophores in their side chains, and the other is the common flexible polymers without π-conjugated chromophores in their main or side chains but with a feature of clustering electron-rich and/or dipole groups in their main and/or side chains. In this work, we found a new photoluminescent polymer comprising theophylline (T) and imidazole (I) residues in a suitable ratio in the side chains on the common polystyrenic block (PVB-T/I). We synthesized a block copolymer (denoted as P2) consisting of hydrophobic PVB-T/I and hydrophilic poly(-isopropylacrylamide), and we investigated its self-assembly into micelles and their micellar features, such as thermo-responsibility, fluorescence emission, pH, and metal ion-dependent photoluminescence, in detail.

Bio-based ionic liquids (ILs) are being increasingly sought after, as they are more sustainable and eco-friendly. Purines are the most widely distributed, naturally occurring -heterocycles, but their low water-solubility limits their application. In this work, four purines (theobromine, theophylline, xanthine, and uric acid) were combined with the cation tetrabutylammonium to synthesize bio-based ILs.

Herein, commercially available columns employed in hydrophilic interaction chromatography (HILIC) were characterized by determining their ability to selectively distinguish the minute structural differences between small molecules such as nucleosides and xanthines in complex sample matrices. Principal component analysis (PCA) was applied to the data obtained from structurally similar analytes, and the results showed that HILIC columns could generally be classified into two groups: (i) silane-modified columns that were prepared from either native silica particles or silica particles modified with low-molecular-weight silanes and (ii) polymer-modified columns obtained from silica particles functionalized with organic polymers. These two groups could be further subdivided based on the functionalities attached to the respective stationary phases.
