The asymmetric unit of the title compound, C(8)H(8)N(2)O(4)S(2), contains one half of a centrosymmetric mol-ecule. A short C⋯O distance of 3.012 (4) Å between the carbonyl groups of neighbouring mol-ecules indicates the presence of dipole-dipole inter-actions. The crystal packing exhibits also weak inter-molecular O⋯S [3.239 (3) Å] and C-H⋯O inter-actions.

During human immunodeficiency virus (HIV-1) entry, the metastable pretriggered envelope glycoprotein (Env) trimer ((gp120/gp41)) opens asymmetrically. We present cryo-EM structures of cleaved asymmetric Env trimers in amphipol-lipid nanodiscs. The gp41 membrane-proximal external region (MPER) could be traced in Env protomers that remained close to the nanodisc despite Env tilting.

Study on the correlation of electron spin resonance with pigment gallstones and trace Cu, Fe in diet.

Sci Rep

March 2025

Key Laboratory for Special Functional Materials in Jilin Provincial Universities, Jilin Institute of Chemical Technology, Jilin, 132022, China.

Through the analysis of electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectra from patients with pigment gallstones, it was found that both Fe and Cu signals were detected in the gallstone powder, exhibiting relatively high intensity. The EPR signal for Fe(III) showed g = 4.18 and ΔHpp = 4.

Asymmetric reductive arylation and alkenylation to access S-chirogenic sulfinamides.

Nat Commun

March 2025

State Key Laboratory of Coordination Chemistry, Chemistry and Biomedicine Innovation Center (ChemBIC), School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Nanjing University, Nanjing, China.

The study of the stereochemistry of organic sulfur compounds has been ongoing for over a century, with S-chirogenic pharmacophores playing an essential role in drug discovery within bioscience and medicinal chemistry. Traditionally, the synthesis of sulfinamides featuring stereogenic sulfur(IV) centers involves a complex, multistep process that often depends on chiral auxiliaries or kinetic resolution. Here, we introduce an effective and versatile method for synthesizing diverse classes of S-chirogenic sulfinamides through selective aryl and alkenyl addition to sulfinylamines.

Purpose: To evaluate the consensus agreements reached in the Global Consensus on Keratoconus and Ectatic Diseases project for subclinical keratoconus, specifically that posterior corneal elevation abnormalities must be present to diagnose mild or subclinical keratoconus.

Design: Literature Review METHODS: Database review (PubMed) was performed on January 2, 2024, to identify studies evaluating the ability of posterior corneal surface metrics to identify subclinical keratoconus using the following search terms: posterior corneal elevation; keratoconus screening; corneal ectasia; subclinical keratoconus; keratoconus suspect; and asymmetric keratoconus. Articles were included for final analysis if they evaluated the ability of the posterior corneal surface to identify subclinical keratoconus compared to anterior corneal surface and/or thickness metrics and reported area under the receiver operating curve (AUROC) data for multiple variables to allow for metric comparison.

BGP-15 improves quality of goat sperm by mitigating oxidative stress during cryopreservation.

Cryobiology

March 2025

Shanghai Municipal Key Laboratory of Agri-Genetics and Breeding, Institute of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Science, Shanghai Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Shanghai, 201106, China. Electronic address:

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of the addition of BGP-15 ((Z)-N'-(2-hydroxy-3-(piperidin-1-yl) propoxy) nicotinimidamide) on goat sperm during cryopreservation. The semen from six rams was diluted with a soybean lecithin-based extender containing different doses of BGP-15 (0, 50, 100, 150, and 200 μM). After the freeze-thawing process, sperm characteristics, plasma membrane integrity and functionality, acrosomal status, mitochondria activity, apoptosis status, and gene expression of post-thawed ram spermatozoa were assessed.
