The Hg atom in the title complex, [HgCl(2)(C(12)H(13)N(3))], adopts a square-pyramidal geometry, being ligated by three N atoms of the tridentate bis-(2-pyridylmeth-yl)amine ligand and two Cl atoms, with one of the latter occupying the apical position. Disorder is noted in the amine portion of the ligand and this was modelled over two sites, with the major component having a site-occupancy factor of 0.794 (14).

In the title compound, [HgCl(CHNSe)], the primary geometry around the Se and Hg atoms is distorted trigonal-pyramidal and distorted square-pyramidal, respectively. The distortion of the mol-ecular geometry in the complex is caused by the steric demands of the ligands attached to the Se atom. The Hg atom is coordinated through two chloride anions, an N atom and an Se atom, making up an unusual HgNSeCl coordination sphere with an additional long Hg⋯N inter-action.

The reaction of mercury(II) chloride with bis-(pyridin-3-ylmeth-yl)sulfane (, CHNS) in methanol afforded the title crystalline coordination polymer -poly[[di-chlorido-mercury(II)]-μ-bis-(pyridin-3-ylmeth-yl)sulfane-κ:'], [HgCl] . The asymmetric unit consists of one Hg cation, one ligand and two chloride anions. Each Hg ion is coordinated by two pyridine N atoms from separate ligands and two chloride anions.

In the structure of the title compound, [HgCl2(C12H20N2)], the Hg(II) atom has a distorted tetra-hedral coordination sphere defined by two tertiary amine N-atom donors, as well as two Cl(-) anions [the dihedral angle between the N-Hg-N and Cl-Hg-Cl planes is 82.80 (9)°]. The five-membered chelate ring adopts an envelope conformation, with puckering parameters of Q(2) = 0.

In the polymeric title compound, [HgCl2(C20H12N2)] n , the Hg(II) atom is located on a twofold rotation axis and the benzene ring of the bidentate bridging 1,4-bis-[2-(pyridin-4-yl)ethyn-yl]benzene (L) ligand is located about a twofold rotation axis. The Hg(II) atom is coordinated by two N atoms of two different L ligands and by two chloride ions in a distorted tetra-hedral geometry. The dihedral angle between the coordinating pyridine and the benzene ring is 12.
