The asymmetric unit of title compound, [Ni(2)(C(4)O(4))(C(7)H(10)N(2))(4)(H(2)O)(2)]C(4)O(4)·0.25H(2)O, contains one-half of a squarate ligand, one-half of an uncoordinated squarate dianion, two 2-(2-amino-ethyl)pyridine ligands and one aqua ligand, all coordinated to an Ni(II) ion. The compound also contains 0.25 solvent water mol-ecules. The Ni(II) ion has distorted octa-hedral geometry. The squarate ligand adopts a μ-1,2 coordination mode, the intra-dimer Ni(II)⋯Ni(II) separation being 7.1442 (7) Å, while the other squarate unit acts as a counter-anion. The crystal structure is stabilized by inter-molecular O-H⋯O and N-H⋯O hydrogen-bond inter-actions, forming a three-dimensional network.

Assessing Squarates as Amine-Reactive Probes.

Probes that covalently label protein targets facilitate the identification of ligand-binding sites. Lysine residues are prevalent in the proteome, making them attractive substrates for covalent probes. However, identifying electrophiles that undergo amine-specific, regioselective reactions with binding site lysine residues is challenging.

Moisture harvesters with favourable attributes such as easy synthetic availability and good processability as alternatives for atmospheric moisture harvesting (AWH) are desirable. This study reports a novel nonporous anionic coordination polymer (CP) of uranyl squarate with methyl viologen (MV ) as charge balancing ions (named U-Squ-CP) which displays intriguing sequential water sorption/desorption behavior as the relative humidity (RH) changes gradually. The evaluation of AWH performance of U-Squ-CP shows that it can absorb water vapor under air atmosphere at a low RH of 20 % typical of the levels found in most dry regions of the world, and have good cycling durability, thus demonstrating the capability as a potential moisture harvester for AWH.

Lanthanide Squarate Complexes Containing Mono- and Trivalent Thallium.

Inorg Chem

June 2023

Department of Biochemistry, Chemistry, Physics, and Engineering, Commonwealth University of Pennsylvania-Bloomsburg, 400 E. Second Street, Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania 17815, United States.

The synthesis and structural characterization of 16 new thallium lanthanide squarate complexes and 1 new cerium squarate oxalate complex are presented. These new complexes─Tl[Ln(CO)(HO)]·CO (Ln = La-Nd) (), Tl[Ln(CO)(HO)]·8HO (Ln = Sm-Lu, Y) (), Tl[Ce(CO)(HO)]·CO (), and [Ce(CO)(CO)(HO)]·2HO ()─all contain the squarate ligand bound to the trivalent lanthanides with varying coordination modes and denticities. Of the four new groups of complexes prepared in this work, two groupings contain monovalent thallium and trivalent lanthanides, the most common oxidation states for these metals.

Rare-earth squarate frameworks with topology.

Dalton Trans

School of Materials Science and Engineering, China University of Petroleum (East China), Qingdao, Shandong 266580, China.

As a typical planar 4-connected ligand that possesses symmetry, the squarate ligand is expected to construct some interesting topologies. Here, we report that the assembly of the squarate ligand with rare-earth ions can produce a series of (4, 8)-connected frameworks with the "smallest" type topology. Among these compounds, the Tb based analogue not only possesses a good proton conductivity, but also exhibits luminescence responses toward MnO and CrO, making it a candidate for multifunctional materials.

Squaramide-Tethered Sulfonamides and Coumarins: Synthesis, Inhibition of Tumor-Associated CAs IX and XII and Docking Simulations.

Departamento de Química Orgánica, Facultad de Química, Universidad de Sevilla, Apartado 1203, E-41071 Seville, Spain.

(1) Background: carbonic anhydrases (CAs) are attractive targets for the development of new anticancer therapies; in particular, CAs IX and XII isoforms are overexpressed in numerous tumors. (2) Methods: following the tail approach, we have appended a hydrophobic aromatic tail to a pharmacophore responsible for the CA inhibition (aryl sulfonamide, coumarin). As a linker, we have used squaramides, featured with strong hydrogen bond acceptor and donor capacities.
