The title complex, [Cu(C(3)H(2)N(3)O(2))Cl(C(12)H(8)N(2))], crystallizes with two independent mol-ecules in the asymmetric unit. Each Cu(II) atom is coordinated by an N atom and an O atom from the bidentate 1H-1,2,4-triazole-3-carboxyl-ate ligand, two N atoms from the 1,10-phenanthroline ligand, and the Cl atom. The coordination geometry is based on a ClN(3)O square pyramid. In the crystal structure, the mol-ecules are linked by inter-molecular N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds.
