Currently available pharmacological treatment of COPD relies mostly on prophylaxis (smoking cessation) and symptomatic treatment, i.e. inhaled anticholinergic agents, β2-agonists and phosphodiesterase inhibitors, aiming in their bronchodilatation capacity.
