A 28-year-old woman was referred to our hospital complaining of upper abdominal discomfort. The patient had been receiving medical treatment for hypertension. Computed tomography revealed a 30 mm solid tumor with calcification in the left adrenal gland and a 8 mm nodule in the right adrenal gland. Endocrinological examinations revealed no activity of either adrenal mass. The left adrenal tumor was extirpated, because malignancy of the tumor was not ruled out. Histopathological examination proved that the tumor was ganglioneuroma arising from the extra-adrenal retroperitoneum.

Metanephrines (metanephrine [MN] and normetanephrine [NMN]) are O-methylated metabolites derived from the catecholamines, epinephrine, and norepinephrine, respectively. High concentrations of metanephrines have been observed in individuals with pheochromocytoma, a neuroendocrine tumor. Measurement of metanephrines in urine is used to screen for the tumor.

Transgenic mice and organoid models, such as three-dimensional tumoroid cultures, have emerged as powerful tools for investigating cancer development and targeted therapies. Yet, the extent to which these preclinical models recapitulate the cellular identity of heterogeneous malignancies, like neuroblastoma (NB), remains to be validated. Here, we characterized the transcriptional landscape of TH-MYCN tumors by single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) and developed ex vivo tumoroids.

Objective: The effects of sex hormones remain largely unexplored in pheochromocytomas and paragangliomas (PPGLs) and gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (GEP-NETs).
Methods: We evaluated the effects of estradiol, progesterone, Dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate (DHEAS), and testosterone on human patient-derived PPGL/GEP-NET primary culture cell viability (n = 38/n = 12), performed next-generation sequencing and immunohistochemical hormone receptor analysis in patient-derived PPGL tumor tissues (n = 36).
Results: In PPGLs, estradiol and progesterone (1 µm) demonstrated overall significant antitumor effects with the strongest efficacy in PPGLs with NF1 (cluster 2) pathogenic variants.

Introduction: Neuroblastoma is an embryonic tumor of the peripheral sympathetic nervous system. It is the most common extracranial solid tumor of childhood and accounts for up to 15% of all pediatric cancer fatalities. The manifestation of neuroblastoma is variable depending on the location of the tumor and the presence or absence of paraneoplastic syndromes.

Metastasis of alveolar soft part sarcoma (ASPS) to the adrenal gland is infrequent, with only eight patients reported in the literature. Here we present an ASPS in an adolescent girl presented as a hypervascular adrenal incidentaloma along with a review of the available literature. This study aims to serve as a reference to aid in the pre-operative radiological and histopathological diagnosis of this rare entity.
