Cryptococcus neoformans/gattii and Histoplasma capsulatum var. capsulatum may present atypical histopathological features inducing diagnostic errors. We aimed to estimate the frequency of these atypical features in formalin-fixed tissue (FT) samples and to assess the relevance of an integrated histomolecular diagnosis using specific H.

Cryptococcus neoformans is an opportunistic fungal pathogen with a polysaccharide capsule that becomes greatly enlarged in the mammalian host and during in vitro growth under host-like conditions. To understand how individual environmental signals affect capsule size and gene expression, we grew cells in all combinations of 5 signals implicated in capsule size and systematically measured cell and capsule sizes. We also sampled these cultures over time and performed RNA-seq in quadruplicate, yielding 881 RNA-seq samples.

Background: is an opportunistic fungal pathogen widely distributed in nature, commonly found in soil and bird droppings such as pigeons. Cryptococcal osteomyelitis is usually found in immunocompromised patients, in an unusual condition Cryptococcus invades the bone. It usually occurs as a part of disseminated infection and is rarely isolated, and isolated cryptococcal osteomyelitis of the radius is rarer.

Background: Cryptococcus neoformans causes cryptococcosis, primarily affecting immunocompromised individuals, including solid-organ transplant recipients, and, less frequently, immunocompetent people.
Case: A 15-year-old male with congenital hepatic fibrosis, portal hypertension, and cirrhosis underwent orthotopic liver transplantation. He received perioperative antimicrobial and antifungal prophylaxis and continued immunosuppressive treatment.

This study aims at the application of a marine fungal consortium (Aspergillus sclerotiorum CRM 348 and Cryptococcus laurentii CRM 707) for the bioremediation of diesel oil-contaminated soil under microcosm conditions. The impact of biostimulation (BS) and/or bioaugmentation (BA) treatments on diesel-oil biodegradation, soil quality, and the structure of the microbial community were studied. The use of the fungal consortium together with nutrients (BA/BS) resulted in a TPH (Total Petroleum Hydrocarbon) degradation 42% higher than that obtained by natural attenuation (NA) within 120 days.
