Objective: To investigate the protective effects of captopril against lung injury in a rat model of severe acute pancreatitis (SAP).

Methods: Seventy-two male SD rats were randomized into sham-operated group (SO group), SAP group and captopril intervention group (CAP group). Serum amylase and myeloperoxidase (MPO) activity in the lung tissue were examined at 1, 6 and 12 h after the operation. TNF-α and AngII in the lung tissue were detected by ELISA, and the histopathological changes of the pancreas and lung were observed microscopically.

Results: The MPO activity , which was similar between SAP group and CAP group at 1 h, were significantly lowered in CAP group at 6 and 12 h (P<0.05). Serum amylase level and the levels of TNF-α and AngII in the lung tissue homogenate were all reduced significantly in CAP group as compared to those in SAP group (P<0.01). The pathological injury of the lung was obviously lessened in CAP group in comparison with that in SAP group.

Conclusion: Captopril can ameliorate SAP-induced lung injury in rats.

Background & Aims: The triglyceride-glucose index (TyG) and triglyceride-glucose body mass index (TyG-BMI) have been identified as potential predictive factors for metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD). However, they do not include high density lipoprotein (HDL-C), which is closely related to lipid metabolism. Furthermore, there is a lack of comprehensive and longitudinal data to determine the cut-off points for different degrees of hepatic steatosis and liver fibrosis in MASLD.

Chalcones are organic substances that have diverse biological activities and exhibit potential for the treatment of various diseases. The properties of these substances depend on the type and position of the functional group attached to their aromatic rings. As a result, in this work the chalcone (2E)-1-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-3-(4-methoxyphenyl)-prop-2-en-1-one (CHO) was investigated by Raman spectroscopy and computational calculations at high pressures with the objective of analyzing its structural stability.

Following implantation, infections, inflammatory reactions, corrosion, mismatches in the elastic modulus, stress shielding and excessive wear are the most frequent reasons for orthopedic implant failure. Natural polymer-based coatings showed especially good results in achieving better cell attachment, growth and tissue-implant integration, and it was found that the inclusions of nanosized fillers in the coating structure improves biomineralization and consequently implant osseointegration, as the nanoparticles represent calcium phosphate nucleation centers and lead to the deposition of highly organized hydroxyapatite crystallites on the implant surface. In this study, magnetic nanoparticles synthesized by the co-precipitation method were used for the preparation of cellulose acetate composite coatings through the phase-inversion method.

Bone tissue engineering aims to develop biomaterials that are capable of effectively repairing and regenerating damaged bone tissue. Among the various polymers used in this field, polycaprolactone (PCL) is one of the most widely utilized. As a biocompatible polymer, PCL is easy to fabricate, cost-effective, and offers consistent quality control, making it a popular choice for biomedical applications.

Calcified tissues in living organisms, such as bone, dentin, and enamel, often require surgical intervention for treatment. However, advances in regenerative medicine have increased the demand for materials to assist in regenerating these tissues. Among the various forms of calcium phosphate (CaP), tricalcium phosphate (TCP)-particularly its α-TCP form-stands out due to its high solubility and efficient calcium release, making it a promising candidate for bone regeneration applications.
