Indoor radon survey in a university campus of Nigeria.

J Med Phys

Department of Physics, University of Ibadan, Nigeria.

Published: October 2010

CR-39 tracketch detectors were used for the measurement of (222)Rn concentration in 24 offices in Nigeria's oldest university campus in order to estimate the effective dose to the occupants from (222)Rn and its progeny. The dosimetric measurements were made over a period of 3 months. Questionnaires were distributed and analyzed. The radon concentration ranged from 157 to 495 Bq/m(3), with an arithmetic mean and standard deviation of 293.3 and 79.6 Bq/ m(3), respectively. The effective dose to the workers was estimated and this varied from 0.99 to 3.12 mSv/ y, with a mean of 1.85 mSv/y. The radon concentrations were found to be within the reference levels of ICRP.

Cellular senescence is a phenotypic state that contributes to the progression of age-related disease through secretion of pro-inflammatory factors known as the senescence-associated secretory phenotype (SASP). Understanding the process by which healthy cells become senescent and develop SASP factors is critical for improving the identification of senescent cells and, ultimately, understanding tissue dysfunction. Here, we reveal how the duration of cellular stress modulates the SASP in distinct subpopulations of senescent cells.

CT angiography of acute aortic syndrome in patients with chronic kidney disease.

Int J Cardiovasc Imaging

January 2025

Department of Clinical Radiology, AHEPA University Hospital of Thessaloniki, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Thessaloniki, Greece.

The term acute aortic syndrome (AAS) refers to a range of different entities, including dissection, intramural haematoma and penetrating atherosclerotic ulcer. Patients with chronic renal disease and particularly those with dominant polycystic kidney disease are susceptible to this pathology, given the underlying renal arteriopathy and hypertension. Imaging plays a crucial role in diagnosing, grading and guiding management of these patients, with computed tomography angiography (CTA) being on the frontline.

Introduction: PD1/PD-L1 inhibition (ICi) has recently become a new standard of care for patients with advanced MMR-deficient (MMRd) endometrial cancers. Nevertheless, response to immunotherapy is more complex than the presence of a single biomarker and therefore it remains challenging to predict patients response to ICi beyond MMRd tumors. Elevated PD-L1 expression (CPS ≥ 1) is often used as a prognostic marker as well as a predictive biomarker of response to ICi in different tumor types.

Background: To investigate the effects of colonoscopic administration of probiotics on patients with irritable bowel syndrome with predominant diarrhea (IBS-D) by a single-center, randomized-controlled trial.

Methods: Consecutive outpatients at the First Affiliated Hospital of Fujian Medical University who met the Rome IV diagnostic criteria for IBS-D (n = 22) and healthy subjects (n = 10) from January 2017 to January 2018 were enrolled. IBS-D patients were randomly divided into either the probiotics or the placebo group.

Background: Neoadjuvant Chemoradiation (nCRT) has been shown to improve survival in patients with Esophageal Adenocarcinoma (EAC). The objective of this study is to assess the patient characteristics associated with tumor downstaging in a large national database. Additionally, we evaluated surgical approach and change in clinical versus pathological staging as predictors of patient survival.
