In this article, the ability of a new and efficient hard-soft method, previously proposed by our research group, is reported for modeling of the complex formation equilibria in the presence of interferences. This method is based on the net analyte signal (NAS) concept, which is a part of total signal that is directly related to the concentration of the component of interest. It monitors the concentration changes of any chemical species involved in the evolutionary process without requiring any pure spectra or having previous knowledge about the presence of the interferences. The proposed hard-soft method based on net analyte signal (HS-NAS) only needs a chemical model for one of the species involved in the reaction under study. The reliability of the method was examined by applying it to the measured data and spectrum of the known real systems of Fe(2+)-azithromycin and Ca(2+)-tetracycline.

Complex coacervation is a form of liquid-liquid phase separation, whereby two types of macromolecules, usually bearing opposite net charges, self-assemble into dense microdroplets driven by weak molecular interactions. Peptide-based coacervates have recently emerged as promising carriers to deliver large macromolecules (nucleic acids, proteins and complex thereof) inside cells. Thus, it is essential to understand their assembly/disassembly mechanisms at the molecular level in order to tune the thermodynamics of coacervates formation and the kinetics of cargo release upon entering the cell.

A novel and efficient analytical protocol based on paper spray tandem mass spectrometry was developed for the determination of isomeric -glycoside flavanones in citrus juices and beverages. This approach significantly reduces sample preparation time and solvent consumption compared to traditional chromatographic techniques. By exploiting the unique fragmentation patterns of these compounds, accurate quantification of both diglycosides and their individual isomers (neohesperidoside and rutinose derivatives) was achieved.
