We report on stable optical waveguides fabricated by soft-proton exchange in periodically-poled congruent lithium tantalate in the α-phase. The channel waveguides are characterized in the telecom wavelength range in terms of both linear properties and frequency doubling. The measurements yield a nonlinear coefficient of about 9.5 pm/V, demonstrating that the nonlinear optical properties of lithium tantalate are left nearly unaltered by the process.

The density functional theory (DFT) and experimental data presented in this paper refer to the research article "Computational and experimental study on undoped and Er-doped lithium tantalate nano fluorescent probes". The DFT data contain electronic and optical properties for both LiTaO and LiTaO:Er, with Er occupying either Li or Ta sites at 4.167 mol.

The Kerr nonlinearity allows for exact analytic soliton solutions in 1+1D. While nothing excludes that these solitons form in naturally occurring real-world 3D settings as solitary walls or stripes, their observation had previously been considered unfeasible because of the strong transverse instability intrinsic to the extended nonlinear perturbation. We report the observation of solitons that are fully compatible with the 1+1D Kerr paradigm limit hosted in a 2+1D system.

For spectroscopy in the 1-THz range, the submillimeter wavelengths and associated large spot sizes, large optical elements, and short distances between final focusing elements and samples can lead to cumbersome experimental setups that are incompatible with some sample environments. Here, we introduce a novel terahertz ring excitation (TREx) optical pumping geometry to generate superposing, focusing fields in planar THz waveguides made out of the electro-optic material lithium tantalate.

This study proposes a single-stage lattice-type acoustic filter using an analytical solution method for either a narrow passband filter or a wider passband filter using two kinds of parameter assignments in the Butterworth-Van Dyke (BVD) model. To achieve the goal of a large bandwidth or high return loss, two first-order all-pass conditions are used. For multi-stage lattice-type filters, the cost function is defined and design parameters are extracted by using pattern search, while the initial values are provided through single-stage design to shorten optimization time and allow convergence to a better solution.
