Species of the Allium genus, used in functional foods for the treatment of improving gastritis and heart failures, were collected and petroleum ether, chloroform, and ethyl acetate extracts were obtained by sonication. The Allium thumbergii chloroform extracts have a significant toxic effect against early fourth-stage larvae of Aedes aegypti L. with an LC(50) value of 2.4 μg/mL and an LC(90) value of 6.3 μg/mL. The Allium victorialis var. platyphyllum petroleum ether extracts have a significant toxic effect against early fourth-stage larvae of A. aegypti L. with an LC(50) value of 1.2 μg/mL and an LC(90) value of 2.1 μg/mL. Also, the Allium sacculiferum chloroform extracts have a significant toxic effect against early fourth-stage larvae of A. aegypti L. with an LC(50) value of 1.8 μg/mL and an LC(90) value of 4.7 μg/mL. The above data indicate that major compounds may play a more important role in the toxicity of A. victorialis var. platyphyllum petroleum ether extracts.

The hydrogen produced ( ) in the Catalytic Naphtha Reforming (CNR) is important in quantity and quality, for the feedback of the process and for supplying the hydrotreatment processes in current refineries. In this work it is presented a study by process simulation using ® for finding operative transitional modes that simultaneously improve quality of the reformate and hydrogen production of the CNR. The operative conditions that were studied correspond to the recirculation ratio of hydrogen/hydrocarbon ( ), with values between 2 and 6, and the temperature (), between 450 and 525 °C, in order to determining the best operative transitional route from the initial operative state to a local improved state, applying the method of superposition of response surfaces and criteria assessment of improvement in quality and quantity of hydrogen produced.

Background: Colon cancer is the third most common cancer type worldwide. Novel alternative therapeutic anti-cancer drugs against colon cancer with less toxicity are to be explored . This study was aimed to explore the anti-proliferative and anti-migratory activity of various fractions of ethanolic leaf extract on human colon cancer cell lines (HCT-116) and to explore the potential molecular targets from the most potent plant extract fraction.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a chronic form of inflammatory bowel disease, which current treatments often show limited effectiveness. Ferroptosis, a newly recognized form of programmed cell death has been implicated in UC pathogenesis, suggesting that it may be viable therapeutic target. Tetrastigma hemsleyanum (TH) has shown potential anti-UC effects, though it is unclear whether its therapeutic benefits are mediated by ferroptosis.

A simple method for determining elemental sulfur in environmental water was developed and applied to seawater samples collected immediately after the occurrence of blue tides in Tokyo Bay. To investigate the concentration and extraction methods, artificial elemental sulfur was quantitatively produced by oxidizing a sulfide solution with an iodine solution, then used as a standard reagent in the experiments. To concentrate the elemental sulfur in the water sample, glass filter paper (GF/F) was used to filter and collect the elemental sulfur.
