Aim: To investigate the effect of hyperthermia on apoptosis of cultivated striatum neurons in the rat.
Methods: After 30 min hyperthermia in 43 degrees, the Ca2+ concentration, the mitochondria membrane potential of the neuron were detected by Laser Scanning Confocal Microscopy (LSCM). The apoptosis of striatum neurons was detected by TUNEL staining.
Results: Heat stress at 43 degrees C for 40 min caused an increase in the Ca2+ concentration of striatum neurons and a decrease in the mitochondria membrane potential of the striatum neurons.
Conclusion: The striatum shows more apoptosis neurons after heat stress.

Huntingtin-associated protein 1 (HAP1) is an essential constituent of the stigmoid body (STB) and is known as a neuroprotective interactor with causal agents for several neurodegenerative disorders, including huntingtin (HTT) in Huntington's disease. Previous in vitro studies showed that compared to normal HTT, STB/HAP1 exhibited a higher binding affinity for mutant HTT. While our understanding of the neurobiological mechanisms underlying cocaine and opiate reward has historically been dopamine-focused, evidence from genetic and pharmacological approaches indicates that µ-opioid receptors (MORs) in the striatum are important contributors. Within the striatum, MORs are expressed in both dopamine D1-receptor and D2-receptor expressing GABAergic medium spiny neurons (MSNs), as well as in interneurons and various afferents. Thus, it remains unclear how these distinct MOR populations regulate drug reward.

In this study, we analyzed the spatio-temporal pattern of expression of specific transcription factors (PITX2, FOXA1, BARHL1, FOXP1, FOXP2) in the human fetal subthalamic nucleus and its neighboring structures from 11 postconceptional weeks (PCW) to 3 postnatal months. We found that all analyzed transcription factors are expressed already during the early fetal period (at 11 PCW). Both FOXP1- and FOXP2-immunoreactive cells were found in the subthalamic nucleus as well as in the striatum, thalamus, reticular nucleus, but not in the zona incerta.
