Complete descriptions, illustrations, distributions and a key to species are provided for the eight known Costa Rican species of Leccinum. Leccinum tablense is newly described from oak forests, and Leccinum monticola is newly described from the páramo and adjacent timberline oak forests where it appears to be associated with Comarostaphylis arbutoides-a member of the Ericaceae. All are compared to similar taxa.

Sponges harbour complex microbiomes and as ancient metazoans and important ecosystem players are emerging as powerful models to understand the evolution and ecology of symbiotic interactions. Metagenomic studies have previously described the functional features of sponge symbionts, however, little is known about the metabolic interactions and processes that occur under different environmental conditions. To address this issue, we construct here constraint-based, genome-scale metabolic networks for the microbiome of the sponge Stylissa sp.

Background: Anxiety disorders are common in alcohol use disorder (AUD) treatment patients. Such co-occurring conditions ("comorbidity") have negative prognostic implications for AUD treatment outcomes, yet they commonly go unaddressed in standard AUD care. Over a decade ago, we developed and validated a cognitive behavioral therapy intervention to supplement standard AUD care that, when delivered by trained therapists, improves outcomes in comorbid patients.

Multicopy nuclear ribosomal DNA (rDNA) genes have been used as markers for fungal identification for three decades. The rDNA sequences in a genome are thought to be homogeneous due to concerted evolution. However, intragenomic variation of rDNA sequences has recently been observed in many fungi, which may make fungal identification and species abundance estimation based on these loci problematic.

Brain development is highly complex and dynamic. During this process, the different brain structures acquire new components, such as the cerebral cortex, which builds up different germinal and cortical layers during its development. The genetic study of this complex structure has been commonly approached by bulk-sequencing of the entire cortex as a whole.

Mammalian reproduction requires that nursing mothers transfer large amounts of calcium to their offspring through milk. Meeting this demand requires the activation of a brain-breast-bone circuit during lactation that coordinates changes in systemic hormones, dietary calcium intake, skeletal turnover, and calcium transport into milk. Classically, increased bone resorption via increased parathyroid hormone-related protein and low estrogen levels is the main source of calcium for milk production during lactation.
