Study of the genus Gomphidius from recent material from Asia and North America has been carried out using traditional taxonomy combined with molecular systematics. Two new species of Gomphidius (G. borealis and G. pseudoflavipes) are described, one from Eastern Siberia and a second from rarely collected habitats in the Western United States. One taxon has the longest spores reported for the genus and the second species appears to be associated with a Siberian larch.

Effects of ECMF Isolated from Mining Areas on Water Status, Photosynthesis Capacity, and Lead Ion Transport of Under Pb Stress.

J Fungi (Basel)

November 2024

Institute of Applied Biotechnology, College of Agronomy and Life Sciences, Shanxi Datong University, Datong 037009, China.

Native ectomycorrhizal fungi (ECMF) are generally more effective than non-native ECMF in facilitating the phytoremediation of heavy metal (HM) ions from contaminated soils. This study aimed to investigate the contributions of four ECMF species-, , , and -that were isolated from mining areas to the growth, water status, photosynthesis, and metallothionein gene expression of exposed to varying concentrations of lead (Pb). The experiment lasted two months and involved .

Ectomycorrhizal Inoculation Enhances the Salt Tolerance of Seedlings.

Plants (Basel)

Beijing Advanced Innovation Center for Tree Breeding by Molecular Design, College of Landscape Architecture, Beijing University of Agriculture, Beijing 102206, China.

Salt stress harms the growth and development of plants, and the degree of soil salinization in North China is becoming increasingly severe. Ectomycorrhiza (ECM) is a symbiotic system formed by fungi and plants that can improve the growth and salt tolerance of plants. No studies to date have examined the salt tolerance of , a typical ectomycorrhizal tree species of temperate forests in the northern hemisphere.

Department of Food Sciences, Faculty of Pharmacy, Medical University of Gdańsk, Al. Gen. J. Hallera 107, 80-416 Gdańsk, Poland. Electronic address:

The aim of the study was to determine 16 elements by FAAS and ICP-AES in ca. 1500 samples of 22 species of mushrooms collected from different regions of Poland and the area around Umeå in Sweden. Chemometric techniques were applied to differentiate samples with respect to their geographical origin and interspecies differentiation.

Edible mushrooms (Albatrellus ovinus, Boletus edulis, Clitocybe odora, Gomphidius glutinosus, Leccinum scabrum, Leccinum versipelle, Lycoperdon perlatum, Suillus bovinus, Suillus luteus, and Xerocomus subtomentosus) collected from unpolluted areas of the city of Umeå and its outskirts in the northern part of Sweden were examined for contents of toxic metallic elements (Cd, Pb, and Ag) and essential macro- and microelements (K, Na, Ca, Mg, Cu, Fe, Mn, and Zn) using a validated method and a final measurement by flame atomic absorption spectroscopy (F-AAS). The median values of the toxic metallic element concentrations (in mg kg dry biomass, db) ranged from: 0.12-3.

Uptake and biodegradation of DDT by 4 ectomycorrhizal fungi.

Sci Total Environ

October 2007

College for Environmental Sciences, Peking University, Beijing 100871, China.

This research deals with biodegradation of 1,1,1-trichloro-2,2-bis (4-chlorophenyl) ethane (DDT) by 4 selected ectomycorrhizal fungi (ECMF) species, Boletus edulis, Gomphidius viscidus, Laccaria bicolor, and Leccinum scabrum. The pure culture of the four ECMF species in a DDT environment (5 mg/l) showed that DDT almost completely disappeared from the media after 15 days, but only 40-50% was found being accumulated in mycelia. Further gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GC-MS) test of the hexane extractable metabolites identified that the remaining DDT degraded to 1,1-dichloro-2,2-bis (4-chlorophenyl) ethane (DDD) (retention time 17.
