Exercised-induced coronary spasm in near normal coronary arteries.

Published: July 2011

In contrast to effort-induced symptoms in obstructive coronary disease, spasm in normal coronary arteries is characterized by angina at rest. We describe a 44-year-old patient with minor coronary plaques and pure exercised-induced coronary spasm. The case questions the differential pathogenic considerations of variant of the variant as opposed to Prinzmetal's variant angina.

Background: Exercise-induced vasospastic angina (VSA) is a relatively uncommon clinical scenario and is difficult to diagnose in the catheterization laboratory.

Case Summary: A 61-year-old Japanese man presented to our hospital with complaints of angina upon exertion in the morning. Neither a 12-lead electrocardiogram nor an echocardiogram showed any abnormal findings.

Extensive Bioactivity of Astaxanthin from Haematococcus pluvialis in Human.

Adv Exp Med Biol

April 2021

International Carotenoid Society, Toyama, Japan.

Astaxanthin is known as a "marine carotenoid" and occurs in a wide variety of living organisms such as salmon, shrimp, crab, and red snapper. Astaxanthin antioxidant activity has been reported to be more than 100 times greater than that of vitamin E against lipid peroxidation and approximately 550 times more potent than that of vitamin E for singlet oxygen quenching. Astaxanthin doesn't exhibit any pro-oxidant nature and its main site of action is on/in the cell membrane.

Heart failure represents the end point of a variety of cardiovascular diseases. It is a growing health burden and a leading cause of death worldwide. To date, limited treatment options exist for the treatment of heart failure, but exercise has been well-established as one of the few safe and effective interventions, leading to improved outcomes in patients.

Early studies in exercise immunology suggested acute bouts of exercise had an immunosuppressive effect in human subjects. However, recent data, show acute bouts of combined aerobic and resistance training increase both lymphocyte activation and proliferation. We quantified resistance exercise-induced changes in the activation state of CD4 T lymphocytes via surface protein expression and using a medically relevant model of infection (HIV-1).
