The formation of nanobubbles on hydrophobic self-assembled monolayers has been examined in a binary ethanol/water titration using small angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). The AFM data demonstrates a localized force effect attributed to nanobubbles on an immersed hydrophobic surface. This evidence is arguably compromised by the possibility that the AFM tip actually nucleates nanobubbles. As a complementary noninvasive technique, SAXS has been used to investigate the interfacial region of the immersed hydrophobic surface. SAXS measurements reveal an electron density depletion layer at the hydrophobic interface, with changing air solubility in the immersing liquid, due to the formation of nanobubbles.

The efficient recovery of fine argentite from polymetallic lead-zinc (Pb-Zn) sulfide ore is challenging. This study investigated nanobubble (NB) adsorption on the argentite surface and its role in enhancing fine argentite flotation using various analytical techniques, including contact angle measurements, adsorption capacity analysis, infrared spectroscopy, zeta potential measurements, turbidity tests, microscopic imaging, scanning electron microscopy, and flotation experiments. Results indicated that the NBs exhibited long-term stability and were adsorbed onto the argentite surface, thereby enhancing surface hydrophobicity, reducing electrostatic repulsion between fine argentite particles, and promoting particle agglomeration.

Porous liquids have traditionally been designed with sterically hindered solvents. Alternatively, recent efforts rely on dispersing microporous frameworks in simpler solvents like water. Here we report a unique strategy to construct macroporous water by selectively incorporating hydrophilicity on the surfaces of hydrophobic hollow carbon spheres (HCS).

Article Synopsis
  • Enhancing the wettability of medical implants is essential for better biocompatibility, and this study explores the use of ozone nanobubble water to improve titanium dental implants' surfaces.
  • Immersion in ozone nanobubble water for about 10 minutes changes implants from hydrophobic to superhydrophilic, maintaining this property for over a month, indicating effective surface alteration and cleaning.
  • The formation of nanoshells from ozone microbubbles contributes to the long-lasting hydrophilicity of the implants, suggesting that this method could be a promising approach for improving the compatibility of dental implants.

A microscopic insight into hybrid CH physisorption-hydrate formation in halloysite nanotubes (HNTs) is vital for understanding the solidification storage of natural gas in the HNTs and developing energy storage technology. Herein, large-scale microsecond classical molecular dynamics simulations are conducted to investigate CH storage in the HNTs via the adsorption-hydration hybrid (AHH) method to reveal the effect of gas-water ratio. The simulation results indicate that the HNTs are excellent nanomaterials for CH storage via the adsorption-hydration hybrid method.
