The Minkowski property of psychological space has long been of interest to researchers. A common strategy has been calculating the stress in multidimensional scaling for many Minkowski exponent values and choosing the one that results in the lowest stress. However, this strategy has an arbitrariness problem-that is, a loss function. Although a recently proposed Bayesian approach could solve this problem, the method was intended for individual subject data. It is unknown whether this method is directly applicable to averaged or single data, which are common in psychology and behavioral science. Therefore, we first conducted a simulation study to evaluate the applicability of the method to the averaged data problem and found that it failed to recover the true Minkowski exponent. Therefore, a new method is proposed that is a simple extension of the existing Euclidean Bayesian multidimensional scaling to the Minkowski metric. Another simulation study revealed that the proposed method could successfully recover the true Minkowski exponent. BUGS codes used in this study are given in the Appendix.

Biomarkers in neurophysiological signals can be analyzed to determine indicators of mood disorders for diagnosis. In this paper, EEG signals were analyzed from a public database of 119 subjects ages 18 to 24 performing a cognitive task. 45 subjects had moderate to severe anxiety and/or depression and the remaining 74 subjects had minimal or none.

Phase separation of SCN-HO ([CHCN]-HO) transparent solutions is simulated in two dimensions and the effects of quenching temperature and initial composition on the pattern formation and dynamic behavior of the second phase are examined Minkowski functionals. The simulation is based on model H where the molar free energy of the SCN-HO solution is obtained by the CALPHAD approach. We find that the composition and temperature do not affect the exponent in the domain growth law, where the average domain size with time yields ()- .

Locomotion is a natural task that has been assessed for decades and used as a proxy to highlight impairments of various origins. So far, most studies adopted classical linear analyses of spatio-temporal gait parameters. Here, we use more advanced, yet not less practical, non-linear techniques to analyse gait time series of healthy subjects.

Objectives: To develop a method, which is precise, accurate, and insensitive to the angle of inclination for determining the fractal dimensional increment (D*) of a surface.
Methods: Brownian interpolation was used to generate simulated ceramic fracture surfaces having known D* values of 0.1, 0.

We examined how two distinct stimulus features, orientation and color, interact as contributions to global stimulus dissimilarity. Five subjects rated dissimilarity between pairs of bars (N = 30) varying in color (four cardinal hues, plus white) and orientation (six angles at 30° intervals). An exploratory analysis with individual-differences multidimensional scaling (MDS) resulted in a 5D solution, with two dimensions required to accommodate the circular sequence of the angular attribute, and red-green, blue-yellow and achromatic axes for the color attribute.
