Background: The Oxford English dictionary defines the term "simple" as "easily done" and "uncomplicated". We tested the validity of this terminology in relation to open nephrectomy surgery.
Methods: Retrospective review of 215 patients undergoing open, simple (n = 89) or radical (n = 126) nephrectomy in a single university-affiliated institution between 1998 and 2002. Operative time (OT), estimated blood loss (EBL), operative complications (OC) and length of stay in hospital (LOS) were analysed. Statistical analysis employed Fisher's exact test and Stata Release 8.2.
Results: Simple nephrectomy was associated with shorter OT (mean 126 vs. 144 min; p = 0.002), reduced EBL (mean 729 vs. 859 cc; p = 0.472), lower OC (9 vs. 17%; 0.087), and more brief LOS (mean 6 vs. 8 days; p < 0.001).
Conclusions: All parameters suggest favourable outcome for the simple nephrectomy group, supporting the use of this terminology. This implies "simple" nephrectomies are truly easier to perform with less complication than their radical counterpart.

Angiomyolipoma is a benign mesenchymal tumour of kidney that consists of adipose tissue, muscle cells and blood vessels. Renal angiomyolipomas represent almost one percent of all renal tumours. We reported a case of a 50-year-old woman complaining of mild abdominal discomfort with no other symptoms and no remarkable medical history.

Objective: To compare different specimen extraction techniques in laparoscopic simple nephrectomy among female patients, focusing on perioperative outcomes, complications, and postoperative recovery.
Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on data from 45 female patients who underwent laparoscopic nephrectomy between September 2022 and July 2024. Patients were divided into three groups: laparoscopic transperitoneal nephrectomy with transvaginal extraction (LTN-TVS), Pfannenstiel extraction (LTN-PFN), and retroperitoneoscopic nephrectomy (RPN) with flank extraction.

Introduction: Laparoscopic simple nephrectomy (LSNx) is among the gold standard options for management of selected poorly functioning and most non-functioning kidneys (PFK/NFKs). Our objective was to audit our patients who had undergone LSNx for benign causes and assess their perioperative outcomes and analyse the factors correlating with these outcomes.
Materials And Methods: We reviewed our prospectively collected data of patients with PFK/NFKs due to benign causes who underwent a LSNx on a three-dimensional (3D) system via a transperitoneal approach between January 2017 and June 2023.

Introduction And Importance: The spontaneous and non-traumatic rupture of renal cysts is a rare clinical condition, which can lead to hemorrhagic shock. In this paper, the authors report a case of spontaneous rupture of a renal cyst and discuss the main features of this condition.
Case Report: A 21-year-old patient presented urgently with hemorrhagic shock with no history or evidence of trauma.

The immunoscore (ISc) has been extensively investigated as a prognostic indicator for numerous solid tumors. In renal cell carcinoma (RCC), its prognostic significance has been evaluated in a small number of studies. This study was designed to ascertain the prognostic value of ISc based on CD3+ and CD8+ T cells in patients with RCC.
