Background: Overcrowding in paediatric emergency departments (PEDs) has become a global public health issue, reducing healthcare quality, increasing dissatisfaction, and driving up costs. Overcrowding in PEDs not only affects patient satisfaction and healthcare costs but also can lead to burnout among healthcare professionals. This burnout could potentially result in suboptimal care for truly severe cases, ultimately increasing morbidity and mortality rates among patients requiring urgent attention.

Staffing levels, fatigue, and intervention timing may vary based on working hours and potentially influence the clinical outcomes of newborns. Stroke Physician, Head of Department, Department of Stroke Medicine, Middlemore Hospital, Counties Manukau, Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora, Auckland, New Zealand.
Aim: New Zealand's Ministry of Health sets three quality metrics for inpatient stroke care: admission to an organised stroke unit within 24 hours (target 80%), appropriate use of reperfusion therapy (target 12% for ischemic stroke) and transfer to rehabilitation services within 7 days (target 80%). Our aim was to evaluate a large Auckland tertiary hospital's performance against these indicators.
Methods: A retrospective study of 200 consecutive stroke patients admitted between April 4 and August 1, 2021, was conducted.

Purpose: The "out-of-hours effect," which indicates hospital admittance during weekends or nighttime, has poorer outcomes for patients than for those admitted on weekdays and is widely documented in various medical conditions. However, this effect remains understudied in pediatric trauma cases, including blunt liver and spleen injuries (BLSIs).
Methods: This was a secondary analysis of a nationwide multicenter retrospective study, focusing on pediatric patients with trauma (≤ 16 years old) with BLSI admitted from 2008 to 2019.

Chronic Subdural Hematoma (CSDH) is one of the most common neurosurgical pathologies. Due to an elderly demographic with increasing co-morbidities, surgery is often deferred out of hours. This may reduce complication risk, but increases length of stay and may compromise patient care due to delayed surgery.
