A silicon microchannel plate (MCP) array electrode modified with over-oxidized polypyrrole (OPPy) has been fabricated to detect glucose. The morphology and structure of the electrode are characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The OPPy modified silicon MCP array electrode exhibits high electrocatalytic activity as well as excellent selectivity to the electrochemical oxidation of glucose. At a potential of +0.08 V, good sensitivity of 0.37 mA mM(-1) cm(-2) and detection limit of 2.06 μM are attained. The linear range is up to 24 mM with a linear correlation coefficient of 0.997. Furthermore, the electrode is highly resistant to interfering substances because the effects of common coexisting substances can be effectively eliminated by the OPPy film and the response in the current to interferences on the electrode surface is almost negligible. This novel electrode has high potential in nonenzymatic detection of glucose.

Vesicular exocytosis is ubiquitous, but it is difficult to detect within the cells' communication mechanism. For this purpose, a 2 µm ultramicrodic carbon fiber electrode was fabricated in this work based on electrodeposition with over-oxidized polypyrrole nanoparticle (PPyox-CFE), which was applied successfully for real-time monitoring of quantal exocytosis from individual pheochromocytoma (PC12) cells. PPyox-CFE was evaluated by dopamine (DA) solutions through cyclic voltammetry and amperometry electrochemical methods, and results revealed that PPyox-CFE improved the detection limit of DA.

Electrochemical oxidation of pemetrexed (PMX) was studied on bare, carboxylic acid functionalized multi-walled carbon nanotubes and over-oxidized polypyrrole modified (oo-PPy/MWCNTs-COOH/GCE) glassy carbon electrodes by cyclic and adsorptive stripping differential pulse voltammetric techniques. The oo-PPy/MWCNTs-COOH/GCE is very sensitive to the oxidation of PMX. The results proved that the over-oxidation of the PPy film gave a negative charge density on porous layer that improved the adsorption for PMX.

We constructed a highly responsive ascorbic acid (AA) sensor utilizing over-oxidized polypyrrole (OPPy) and Palladium nanoparticles (PdNPs) composites (OPPy-PdNPs). In the presence of PdNPs, polypyrrole (PPy) was coated on a gold (Au) electrode through cyclic voltammetry (CV) and over-oxidized at a fixed potential in NaOH solution. The PdNPs were characterized using ultraviolet-visible (UV-vis) spectrum and transmission electron microscopy (TEM).

Electrode-supported hydrogels were conferred with the biospecificity of enzymes during the process of electropolymerization to give rise to a class of bioactive, stimuli-responsive co-joined interpenetrating networks of inherently conductive polymers and highly hydrated hydrogels. Glucose responsive biotransducers were prepared by potentiostatic electropolymerization [750 mV vs. Ag/AgCl (3 M KCl)] of pyrrole at Poly(hydoxyethyl methacrylate)-based hydrogel-coated Pt micro-electrodes (Φ = 100 μm) from aqueous solutions of pyrrole and glucose oxidase (GOx; 0.
